We had our first fire of the year Monday. Low of 45f but cloudy all day so no thermal warming.  Already 5 cords split and stacked so bring it on.

BTW: Central Ca. and it was 93 last week, now 60's, what a change.

Hmmm, rice coal , I never heard of it either. But I did grow up in a house with coal heat,. I can remember my dad goin to stoke the furnace (occasionally at 2-3 AM!)  We had a special room in the basement where a truck would come and fill through an open window. Friggin dust every where!

Probly why I have so many alleries today!  :grinyes:

We turned our furnace on last week when it got down to like 38, woke up the next morning and it was like 46 inside.............Pam was rather upset cause I left a couple windows open.  :roflsmiley:  Have any of you considered those Eden Pure electric heaters as a "support" source? Our house has three levels, bedrooms up with the kitchen etc. on the main level and a partially finished basement. We put one of the heaters on the bedroom level and one in the basement, the main level of course is where the furnace thermostat is located. Now both of these units are supposed to be capable of heating a 1000 sg.ft. area and we use them only when we are on that level, but basically one or the other was running around the clock during last winter. Also we have them set for about 1/3 of their output capacity,we also have a natural gas fireplace in the basement that is thermostat controled. Long story short we turned down the furnace thermastat to 68* since we use that level of the house the least and of course there are furnace runs throughout the house. Our AEP electric budget did increase $2.00 a month for this year, but our natural gas budget dropped to $24.56 a month as opposed to $155.56. Now I know that will not be a true budget amount for the natural gas, but we had a positive account balance of over $900.00+ last year. The electric units cost like $400.00 each, so in the first year of use they more than paid for themselves in the $900.00 positive account balance from Dominion East Oho Gas.

Hi Jim!
Ya my Dad is wanting one of those heaters. He keeps asking me to look for them when I head to the USA as he says he can't find them here in Canada?

I fill the hopper every 2 days between 100+150 pounds depending on how cold it has been (0thru 25)  . Dust is not a problem , the coal is oil washed . It's not like motor oil more like water , either way it's not bad and no dust . I buy my coal in 50 lb bags although bulk would save about 200 per year the first year would be a was because the cost of building a bin . I might go with bulk down the road . If you're interested in knowing more there is plenty more info under google search "rice Coal Stoves) . Far as being clean no one in my drive way carrying signs yet  :worshippy. It has a power vent no chimney and you do not see any smoke coming out of if . Bottom line the best thing I can say is after 3 years I'd do it again .
