Would you make this trade??????

I had a gentleman call me today asking about a set of 70-1 fenders for a challenger I have lying around. Passangers side is in great shape, drivers needs work to say the least. We got to talking and he mentioned that he parts out challengers and asked if I need anything. When I start building my challenger Im going to need disc brakes. Especially going with a pro-touring build. So I proposed the deal of the fenders for the brakes. Upper/lower arms/ spindles/calipers/rotors/prop valve/ boosers. Pretty much everything. Would you do it and if you would is there anything that Im missing that I would need to swap from my factory 4 wheel drum car?

first I`d think to myself if I would use stock brakes for my pro-touring build...  :clueless:

well nothing crazy. You are right, Discs in the rear atleast. More so modern in the interior. Stupid to blurt out pro touring but good deal no?

 I think there is a minor difference in the 70-71 fenders.  Also, the lower control arms, are they with or without sway bar mount brackets?  The calipers will need to be rebuilt, the disc rotors need to spec over an inch to be good, your upper arms will work any ways. The booster is touch n go when bought used and has been setting up. proportion valve will need to be changed thou as you posted. So all in all, it's your fenders, and if these parts are in good shape, then I would think it could be worth it. If you think so too, then it's worth it to you :2thumbs:

Agreed. At that level I'd be looking at a major brake upgrade, not stock parts.

The upper arms are the same, I believe (although I could be wrong) the lower arms are the same. The rotors I wouldn't re-use, the calipers are probably better used as cores, the prop valve won't help if you're going rear disks, and the booster is a big ? depending on its condition. So, the spindles are really the only thing you're getting out of this deal that you really need and can probably use. I'd keep the fenders, even in not so great shape you could get new spindles for less. And considering that you don't need e-body spindles specifically, I'd pass (A-body spindles '73-'76 will work, so will the later F/J/M body spindles, despite claims that they won't).

Also, the year of the spindles makes a difference. If they're 70-72 spindles, they'll only take the early type rotor, which are harder to find and more expensive. If they're '73 up spindles, you can bolt on 11 3/4" rotors from a later model mopar (cordoba's, diplomat's etc, 77-81). Here's my conversion to 11.75" rotors...http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=56565.0 Just food for thought. I'd sell the fenders and use the money to buy new spindles and 11.75" caliper bracket's and put the left overs to getting the rest of what you'd need.

well the deal never went through. Just out of curiousity how much did that set up run you? I love the 2" drop btw. And the bigger rotors look a lot better to. Im located on Long Island  up in NY zip is 11769

Yeah I had to go with the 2" drop spindles because of the big (1.12") torsion bars, even with a 1" bar you can get it as low as I have it with just the adjusters. The spindles are now listed for $440 at Magnumforce, I think I got them off eBay for more like $400 though. The rotors were around $150 on eBay, keep in mind you will still need '73 and up spindles to run the later rotors though if you don't go the dropped spindle route. Since I had the earlier spindles it was a no brainer, I had to go with new ones anyway so the drop spindles were only a little more.

I also have tubular upper and lower control arms and adjustable strut bars, although none of that is required for the rotors, or the spindles for that matter. In fact, the drop spindles should allow for a proper alignment, even without the offset bushings that lowering the car with the torsion bar adjusters usually requires.
