I used to work at a datacenter downtown and the parking lot backed up to one end of the old Underground Atlanta.  One night getting off at midnight I walked into the lot and right in front of me was the biggest rat I've ever seen in my life.  I'm guessing 30-35 lbs at least.  The thing just turned and looked at me as I walked toward it and my car.  It very slowly started walking away, keeping its eyes locked on me.  Mean looking critter for sure!

My problem at home now is chipmunks.  They are EVERYWHERE and boring under our front steps, our retaining walls, our driveway, EVERYWHERE.  Anybody have any luck getting rid of these things?  If so, let me know how you did it.

Later, Jim

Come on Jim! 35 lbs? We should go fishing and see who can give the biggest whopper story.

I don't doubt it was huge the way you described. Anyway, here's one but not even 35 lbs. Maybe 10-14 lbs.

I've had good luck with "The Bucket of Death".

Fill a 5 gallon bucket 1/2 to 2/3 full of water.  Then put sunflower seeds on top until you can't see anymore water.  Lean a 2x4 or something against the bucket as a bridge and trail some seeds along it to get the little buggers attention.  They will come up and jump in and can't get back out.  We've caught a ton of chipmunks this way.  The seeds will eventually get waterlogged and you'll have to set it up again...

:eek2:  Jim, 30-35 lbs.?  Sure it wasn't a small beaver or a larger muskrat, I don't even think an opossum can get that big.  :wow:  :dunno:

Same idea here but I use antifreeze instead of water ( keeps them from stinking, and it won't freeze) Instead of sunflower seeds I smear peanutbutter about 3" from the rim on the inside of the bucket. They can smell the peanut butter from a long way off and just can't resist Good for travel trailers, boats etc where you can't check often. Works for mice and Chipmunks! :2thumbs:

The Human population as whole has created the rodent populations in the suburbs to flourish. Raptors, foxes, etc. need silence and wide open visibility. With buildings and traffic, noise, activity; they are limited to controlling them in a natural way. Their territotories are limited.

Natures ways of keeping infestations under control will prevail compared to what man can do. We create an impact but it always returns later on.

Have you tried to put it together?   :clueless:

Just finished re-baiting, rat bas*ards are/ were in the house. Two actually jumped out of the pantry right in front of me. Another one outside has twice chewed the main cable to my power distribution box.  As I was inspecting it, I turned and noticed the thing was right there, dead with it's tongue hanging out. Kinda sucked to see the actual results of the bait but, at least my power cable wont be chewed again  :2thumbs:
