Congrats!  So how high did the car have to be?  It doesn't look like you could pull the tranny out from your pic?

Did you inspect the converter hub and bushing to make sure they were OK?

I measure 18" at the "pinch rail" (not sure that is what the seam is called).  We lowered the tranny off the jack and onto a piece or plywood.  Had to tilt the bell housing down a bit to get clearance.  Would have been a pain if I was doing this alone.  This was ultimately done on the cheap with a floor jack and some wood to stablize (heh) the tranny.   I didn't get the tranny jack because it had been sold 20 minutes before I got to the store... If I did this alone I'd need one.

Yes, and all seemed okay.  We did find a few small pieces of the front seal when we pulled the torque converter.  Appeared to be from the inner part of the seal so I don't know if that wear is going to be a bad omen of something wobbling, out of alignment or what ever...

I have my tranny cooler lines on the way and will hopefully have them for a weekend install ...isn't that what weekends are made for?

Will post back with progress.

Finally found the fittings needed to install the new cooler lines.

finally lined up.   You get a good shot of the flare fitting doing its work.


at this point I didn’t care about the Teflon monster.  Will trim his tail someday.


I know this car will always be a work in progress, but as I was checking the tranny to see if it was leaking, I noticed I was loosing coolant and now have a new problem.  Looks like a front water pump gasket.  (will post a picture)  :eek4:

I’m really getting a crash course on auto repair.    :working:
