POLL: kuda engine bay look
« on: October 22, 2010 - 05:28:18 PM »
hi all, i'm deciding on which look to do with the engine bay of my car.
which of these two looks do you prefer?

hemi orange block with alloy parts, fabricated alloy valve covers:

or all hemi orange motor, cast alloy valve covers, black aluminium radiator, black headers (tti now does black ceramic):

thought it would be fun to see what you all think.
i'm leaning towards the all orange look, as this is what i love about the stock motors, they just look so
damn cool...    and the car will be going all black sometime in the future when i'm sick of the gray/black
paint job, and a bright orange motor in a jet black car would look amazing.

here's the paint scheme as it will be for summer once i've done the 440 swap and all the work i'm starting
on the suspension, drivetrain, body etc:

let me know what you think!

cheers,
aaron

Aaron,

Just my two cents of course but the orange with alloy seems to match the exterior paint scheme a bit better.

In your case, I`d keep it black... block painted black and black anodized alloy parts on it  :aarg:
as for the pics above, I like the first one best  :2thumbs:

I agree the aluminum color helps.
With an all black car it looks better with that 3rd color in the engine bay.

I like the second picture, it says "it's all about the motor"

I didn't vote because I like them both!  I sort of like the contrast the bare metal parts provide but like you I like the look of stock motors a bunch right now.  Where I was the first one to put chrome or cast parts on my car back in the 70's just so it wouldn't look stock, 30-35 years later there are so few running around that stock isn't such a bad thing anymore....

I look forward to seeing your car when you're done.

I like number 2 better...especially the black radiator.

I typically like a custom look engine better, but in this case I like the all orange.

I am making mine all purple over the winter (finned valve covers with a brushed finish on the fins).

Orange all the way. The contrast is great!  It glows in the darkness.

C Jas,  that looks really good too.

I like the former, but w/cast covers (plain).

Keep the aluminum heads bare (or polish them!).

Paint peels and looks old after awhile.  I like it only on OEM-looking engine compartments.

cheers for the input!
i think i'm definitely going all orange. looking at the two images, there just isn't any contest for me!
it's much more striking, and would photograph better. and be more unique. i'm sold!
i just painted the motor today, along with the intake and some old alloy edelbrock valve covers, as a test.
i'm using the por engine enamel. anyone have any experience with clear coating this paint?
it might need it to pump up the gloss. if i go all orange i want the paint thick, deep, and glossy.

i have both fabricated alloy and cast alloy valve covers coming from the states. so if i want to
change looks to the fabbed alloy one it would only involve blasting the intake and water pump back to
bare alloy. the radiator can stay black. the black headers might be slightly less fitting but they
will be different! anyone seen the new black tti ceramic finish? i can't find any images anywhere...

it's funny, i've dreamed for years of a badass motor with bare alloy fabricated bits, and now
i'm going to paint my whole engine bright orange.  you can't beat the factory though.
looking through the mopar books i have, the all-orange 6-pack engines just look so damn good.
and i really want an old school mopar feel to this car. while still being customised.

keep the feedback coming!

cheers!

here's the plan for the hand painted fish logo on the side of the car:

painting that and sticking the 'hurst equipped' badge on the back will be last things i do.
can't wait! just a couple of months of every spare moment spent on the car and i'll get her done.

I think either one works but the 2nd has a more unique flavor that you dont see every day. Are you losing your gilled fenders? What other body mods are you dont to this thing?

I prefer the first one with the aluminum accents. I think it has more contrast and is more visually striking.
