E-Body radio interchangeability???
« on: October 24, 2010 - 11:18:25 AM »
Hello everyone,

I would like to know if an AM/FM 8-Track radio from a C-Body will fit and work in an E-Body. I know that the E-Body 8-Track radios were AM-only. I am not concerned with 'originality' on this. I want to make sure that it would be a plug-n-play swap. Would the location of the antenna hook-up (or any other difference) cause a problem? Are any modifications to the radio or dash frame necessary. I don't have an original radio, of any kind, to see how much clearance there is before buying the new one. This will be going into a 1970 Barracuda. Hoping someone who may have tried this will chime in.

Thanks,
Paul

What year of Cbody is the radio from.  Some Cbody radios had a slanted face.  The Ebody radio has a flat face.

The radio is out of a '69 Imperial 300. It looks very similar to an E-Body unit.

Thanks Barry,
I had already looked on your site and looked through that info. I have seen a few E-Bodies with the AM/FM 8-Track. Just wasn't sure of their particular stories when they installed them.

I wish I would have found this site sooner. Mine had an after market radio when I got it so I bought a "challenger radio" a couple years ago in anticipation of the coming restoration. I wasted my cash.

I've installed plenty of C-body radios in E-bodies. I had to drill extra holes in the front of the dash frame, but they got covered by the plastic trim. If the price is right, give it a try!
My name is Steve and I'm addicted to Challengers...

According to the info I read mine should have black buttons. The one I have has silver.
