Degreeing Cam
« on: October 24, 2010 - 09:23:14 PM »
What benefits would I get from degreeing my cam

The specs of my engine are as follows:

360, stock bottom end
Stock heads
Aprox 9 :1 compression
Eddy Torker 340 Intake
Eddy Torker Plus Cam
   @050 Int dur. 222 , Ex dur. 234
   Lift Int .447 Ex .450
   Intake Centre line 107 Ex centerline 116
750 CFM Holly Vac sec

Cam was installed straight up.

The engine was built in 91 or so and degreeing in a cam was not something that I (a high school student) had heard of yet.

SO...would it be worth it to do now.

Not worth the trouble now. You degree to make sure the cam is installed correctly as well as verify top dead center on your balancer. You can start retarding and advancing the cam to move the powerband around but the gains won't be worth the trouble. Now on custom ground cams it can be much more important. sometimes cams get ground incorrectly, on the wrong blank, etc, etc. I have never had an off the shelf cam come wrong, but have had custom grinds off as well as a billet timing gear that was mismarked one tooth. That would have made the cam timing 13 degrees off!

your cam prifile is not aggresive. Wouldn't warrant the effort to do it to gain (if any) noticable difference.

if the cam is ground properly it will degree correctly without adjustment , most installs are fine , if it is out which I do run into it would run better degreed , if it runs ok now I would leave it
