« on: October 27, 2010 - 02:26:03 PM »

A paint supplier will be able to cross reference these codes.

I used a high temp primer made by VHT around the exhaust ports prior to painting my engine.

Way better to spray gun it than rattle cans. Rattle can paint looses its luster after years gone by, gets brittle and sometimes peels off.

Thanks for the info. I am limited to a rattle can. So I will do some research and also check the auto parts store. My local auto paint store does mix and put the paint in a rattle can so I will check and see if they can do that with the paint code.

Maybe not the absolute best paint but Duplicolor, found at most parts stores, has spray cans (# DE1631 - Chrysler Corp. Blue) but I notice it is not being stocked everywhere so it may need to be ordered which adds a day or two around here.

thats what im using duplicolor de1631.  i work in a parts store and we dont stock it so i had to buy a case of 6.  interestingly it matches the valve covers off my cars 318 real nicely but when compared to the blue from the 79 360 im painting its lighter.

Some of the paints I find in searching are listed as marine paints. Will these work also? Has anyone tried them?

You could use a preval sprayer if you decide to use paint instead of the rattle cans.

Vinb, is that the duplicolor on your motor? It looks lighter than I remember.  At my age I have sometimers and it may just be my memory.

Probably need at least 3 cartridges. It should work but will be way slower than a gun.

Yep, that color is a match, it may look different because of the flash....

And for that long lasting good looks try using a self etching primer first. Prevents the paint from flaking away after a few years. We did that with the son's Charger 10 years ago and still looks great.
