front end stance
« on: October 30, 2010 - 05:24:27 PM »
I put in a new front (K) member and now the front of the car sits quite high.
I have been told that I need to loosen the torsion bar nuts and that will lower the car.
However there are only 3/4" left on the end of the nuts?
I did not even have enough room to replace the cotter pins.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

You must be looking at wrong bolt, no cotter pin.  It's the bolt sticking out of the lower control arm pointing down.

Hey guys,
I have a question, if I adjust this lower bolt.
Won't it change my toe in.

...and your caster and your camber. Alignment will be required if you change ride height more than an inch.

Thanks,hp2
I'm wondering, how did I change the ride height without moving these adjustment nuts?
would installing a new (K) member do this?
I sent some pictures to Katfish.
In hopes of articulating my problem a little better but I am not even sure if he got them.
I am hoping he will send them back because I did not save any :banghead: :feedback:

Check your PM, I didn't see any pics at my email address.  You can usually go to your sent mail box and find a copy of anything you've emailed.

Many factors involved in ride height, have you driven car since the k-member swap?  When I last adjusted my frt end height I had to drive it around to let it settle.

The tolerance of the new k-frame may just stack up differently, that's why they have quite a bit of adjustment range with that bolt.

Yes Katfish, I received your pm Thank you

I crashed things with my pictures (I guess).

Try # 4 I originally put in a Big block (K) member.

the old motor mounts were cut off(it was mounted through the water pump for a drag application).

I was told by another mopar friend, that I over tightened the the  torsion bars and that I should loosen the retaining nuts.
however I do not believe this to be the case, as I still could not get the nuts on far enough to get the pins back in.

I took off the upper control arms in order to drop the (K) member.
But I changed no setting on any other bolts,

I'm going to try to attach 2 pictures in hopes of not crashing.
then if this works I'll have to do this twice more, as I have a total of 6 pic's

it looks like you need to out the torsion bar adjuster back into the right position , the adjuster isnt in  the hole .

 :iagree:

Good catch, looks like it's seated on the arm.  This would effectively make it sit higher.  The bolt needs to seat in the indentation.

12372,
you are correct, the nipple is not in the depression indention!
But now what?
I drove it around the yard.
Across broken ground (pretty rough).
Hoping it would pop in place,no luck.
Any ideas appreciated, just please don't say take it out and start all over!

Just jack up the car and loosen the adjuster all the way until you can move it to the correct location.
