    With the big 3 back in the game, all having "pony" cars again. Imagine if the Trans-Am series was reborn! Couldn't you just see the new Mustang's ,Camaro's, and the new Challenger all beating on one another! :drool:
    I came across this picture on the net and ...boy did it get my blood pumping!


    Nascar just sucks in my opinion....and I work for them on Saturday nights! :smilielol:
    They missed the boat IMO.  The Nationwide Challenger is a joke! It's just a recycled COT car with a nose and some fancy decals! :puke:
    They could have brought back the trans-am series ,called it something else I don't care! But make the car bodies STOCK again! Use Cup engines or truck series engines, what ever, 9" floater rear ends, Nascar style chassis for safety..? BUT KEEP THE BODIES STOCK!!!  BONE STOCK! Then run 50% of the races at road race tracks and the other 50% at short tracks, use the tracks Nascar has "abandoned" Hickory,etc.... just keep them off the super speedways and big tracks.
    Man I'd be all over that! I'd bet more people would be into that than Cup racing!

    I am with you man.....I used to be a nascar nut but I believe they have absolutely ruined the sport.  I also have personal ties to Nascar through my father and Junior Johnson (thats another story).  I am glad to see you mention Hickory Motor Speedway.  I grew up in Hickory, NC and remember going there as a kid and seeing Ned Jarrett run there along with others from the old days (where they were real drivers of STOCK cars and not the cry babies of today).  I will add a few tracks to your list:

    How about your suggestion of Hickory plus Rockingham and North Wilkesboro, North Carolina.  I used to go to North Wilkesboro as a kid all the time.  Great short track where you HAVE to know how to drive or you wont survive.  Its unfortunate that NASCAR has all but abandoned the short tracks all because the inability or lack of room for the large crowds. 

    Anyway...just my 2cents worth!!!

    I agree! perfect tracks to run them at! Keep the speed to 150 MPH max.

     :iagree: but that 800 lb NA$CAR gorilla wont allow it.

    it would be fun Humpy or Bruton tried it once but went about it all wrong, big time racing has gotten  way to expensive IMHO

    Wow - Wouldn't that be cool?  There is so much interest in all 3 of these cars right now (Challenger, Mustang, Camaro), and I think this would really get some attention.

    I've never seen the Nationwide Challenger, but I have 'less than zero' interest in NASCAR anyway (The Kitty Litter/Band-Aids Series or the Prep H Series).  I love open wheel racing, but it would be really great to see a revamped Trans-Am series, either as a support race, or as a standalone series.   

    My guess is that two factors would stop this:  The '800 pound gorilla' (although that series is shrinking anyway), and the fact that automakers don't have the budget to support it right now.  But what an awesome idea!

       :money:  There is big money to be made by a few that is why the current crop of cars are the way they are.   :money:
    We need to go back to "grass roots racing" where the average person/fan can identify with the car being raced and the driver using his/her skill to pilot the car around the track. Sure we do need to have some of the more modern safety features but if speeds were lower because of a more realistic set of rules the fun would return and costs should be less.   :burnout:

    There already are grassroots series out there. Fan support and sponsor dollars are what's lacking.

    Who on here , or anyone you know for that matter, have ever been to a NASA event? Their American Iron and Camaro/Mustang Challenge series are ripped right from the vintage SCCA Trans Am series of the early 70s.

    They have everything from SCCA type autocross, to spec racers in several flavors, time trials, and their Pro Series of a variety of classes. http://www.nasaproracing.com/
