Rear shoulder belts.
« on: November 14, 2004 - 08:53:40 AM »
Has anyone put rear shoulder belts in a Challenger. I have two small kids, and don't want to go with just lap belts. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Jeff

Jeff-

I've been trying to figure out the same thing.  Here is one place I've found that sells seat belts for muscle cars:

G.E.M. Street Rod Products

1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye w/440
2002 Chrysler Town and Country eX
2004 Dodge Ram 1500 QC 4WD Hemi

Here's a mega bump.

Trying to decide what to do in the back of my Cuda. With a four year old daughter, I'd like a better option than just lap belts.

I know rear shoulder belts were a rarely seen factory option.

I'm trying to figure how to best install an anchor for the shoulder. Package tray does not seem strong enough. Maybe the C-pillar.

Anybody have pics of a rear seat shoulder belt retrofit in an Ebody?

Here in Australia universal seatbelts can be purchased.
When fitting though you need to make sure that on the under side of the panel a plate at least 1/8" thick & at least 4" square to spread the force or load. If a retractable is used then a much larger plate needs to be used. Don't fit near a cut-out or hole in the panel.   :2thumbs:

Hello!  Looking at the date of your original post you probably have already addressed your rear shoulder belt issue.  If not check out my post in the "VIN,Fender Tag and Broadcast " section, titled "How Rare Is This?).  My car came equiped with rear seat shoulder belts but the shoulder belts are missing.  The car is under restoration and will have them when done.  The fender tag code for the factory install is C-14.  Hope this helps.  If not please respond with questions. I'd probably look at Corbeaus retractable harnesses and go through the package tray to the shock mounts (that area) with them.

I had to solve the problem somehow. We have three kids. I had two lapbelts in the back...
Didn't want to cut any holes. Not in the shelf or in the plastic panels. So I used the opening for the rear defogger and a bezel.
Put the retractors in the centre of the car. You put on the belt on backwards but it's still three points.
The contraption in the trunk is welded together and bolted to the shelf. It will also house the amp for the stereo and a receiver for some wireless remote gadgets.
Just make sure that the angle of the retractors have the same angle as in the doner car. Otherwise they will lock up and not work.
A lapbelt in the middle holds the baby seat!

Biggest problem with 'Giveitawack' is as he mentions it is back to front which means that a person can slide outwards which in our E bodies isn't a problem but still here in Australia would be illegal.
I think the job he has done looks professional though.
