Rear color
« on: November 14, 2004 - 10:10:47 AM »
Ok here is my question and thanks in advance. What color were the rear tail pannel and tail lights painted from the factory in 73 on a rallye car that was painted white? I know the darker cars were painted argent with black around the lights but was the opposite true for a light colored car or was the entire rear painted black? Can't seem to find any pics that show a clear shot of an original car again thanks..... dontknow ???

I can't believe i didn't think of this sooner, but (and i'm checking to see if i've got it on tape) Speedvision has/had been showing episodes from the old show Car and Track. Each episode featured a race and current production vehicle spotlight. One of those episodes spotlights a 340 Challenger Rallye. I don't believe it was a white car though.

I think 'CUDAs look best black on the back and '72 and up Challengers look best argent silver but on a
white car black looks pretty cool

Don't know what's correct on Challys but I don't think you can go wrong patriot

LB i know you've mentioned your Dad's 73 Rallye. Although not white it's a 340 car - what color is the tail panel if it hasn't been changed?

73, the rallye cars should receive a completely black taillight panel.  Argent silver was used on the non-rallye cars.  Black would look so much better on a white car anyways. thumbs rice

I had a similar post not too long ago on the exact same thing - I have a '73 Challenger with silver tail light housings ( check in the body section under tech column, the thread was titled " so what is the correct color " )

I still unsure, but the silver still looks good so I am going to leave it  dontknow

When I bought my yellow Rallye, the middle of the panel was body colour, and the light housings were argent.  I have since painted them black, but they were argent to begin with.

At this rate we'll find out how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Charms Tootsie Roll Lollipop before we know the tail panel colors on 72-74 Rallyes, lol. Say Galen if you're listening, how's about throwing us a bone on this one??
