2012 Calendar Reminder + Info
« on: November 05, 2010 - 09:27:34 AM »
As we finish the 2011 calendar, don't forget the 2012 calendar. Lots of folks in the northern hemisphere have great fall color right now, which means lots of folks in the southern hemisphere have lots of spring color. And we're not too far from snow in the north (some sooner than others); that yellow TA in the snow this year wasn't shot in the summer, believe me  :grinno:

If you're looking for some ideas, Automobile magazine just published a standalone special issue called something like "The Year's Greatest Automobile Photography."

unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, owners like me live in a climate that looks the same year round. Same old same old with no beautiful mountainous backgrounds either.
About the only interesting backgrounds I have around here are cruiseships or south beach, and that is so overplayed and boring, at least to me.

Almost anything can look good as a background, as long as you pay attention to how you place the vehicle and yourself for the shot, and the quality of the light. Mall parking lots are not that great, but almost anything else  :)

I have seen some interesting commercial/heavy industrial backgrounds.
Maybe I'll scout around for something like that.

I have some great shots from around the Rouge Steel factory southwest of Detroit. This facility was sold to a Russian group some time in the past, and they have hired a bunch of goons to walk around and tell people that it's a Federal crime to take pictures from public sidewalks. Apparently they're trying to import the Russian way into the US. I just laughed and invited them to call the police.

Find the "Burn Notice" Charger and get a shot with that.
