Wide stainless trim along base of windshield
« on: November 07, 2010 - 08:43:28 PM »
This is the wide trim that the wipers lay on top of when they are in the stowed position.  This trim on my 74 chally doesn't lay flat against the glass, kinda touches and doesn't touch.  Should I seal the gap between the trim and windshield??
There was not any sealer when I took it apart, just wondering if sealing would help keep water out from behind the trim.
Thanks for your comments and suggestions.
Phil

The only problem I had, with the same situation as yours, was the wipers would not climb over the trim to park and having brand new wiper motor worried me about burning it out. I was on a wine tour road trip so fixed it at the hotel. What I did was pry the trim out a little, fill it with black silicone and used rocks (with a towel to protect the paint) between the hood edge and the trim to push it against the windshield and let it sit overnight. Been good ever since. No you do not need to seal this. But one tip is to ensure that the 2 screws that hold the trim lower corner pieces in have polyurethane or silicone over the little slots they screw in to or you get a small leak in the rain that collects behind the kick panel.
