Firewall and Dash reassembly
« on: November 08, 2010 - 12:31:32 AM »
Ok, I've got all the sound deadener installed, now I'm moving on to the heater/AC box and then steering column along with the dash frame/pad. What I'd like to know is the best order of installation of all these parts. There's insulation, wiring, dash frame, column, heater box, dash pad, vacuum lines, ducts, etc etc. I'm trying to avoid getting too far down a path and realizing I have to turn back and uninstall because I missed something along the way.

Thanks again.

You can make a jig to build the whole dash and test alot of your electrical system before installing in the car. The other items you mentioned can be installed first and then set the dash in place.
Believe me, your back will be thanking you!  :grinyes:

I'd put the dash in before the column.  The dash is heavy, you can get it in place easier with the column out.

Due limited workspace I have to be able to move the car around, but if that hadn`t been the case, the last 2 things I would put on the car would be the column and the windshield.  :2cents:

:iagree:  Column needs to go in LAST.

Thanks for the tips. I'm able to leave the column out so I think I will at least for now. The main concern I have is putting the dash in and not having access to various items under/behind the dash that should have been installed prior to the dash. The obvious one is the heater/ac box and ducting. Anything else I should be concerned about other than that or is everything else accessible without re-removing the dash?

I really appreciate the picture of all the pieces. It's a good reference shot.

firewall insulation
upper cowl insulation
heater box with cables
defroster duct
radio antenna
throttle pedal and cable
complete brake and clutch assembly
drivers side fresh air duct
e-brake mechanism and front cable
install the speedometer cable and have it up close to where it attaches to the dash
if you have a manual foot pump for the wipers install it before the dash(if not, install the plastic plug in the firewall)

That's all I can think of right now.  Some of that stuff you can get to after but it is easier to do now.
