« on: November 10, 2010 - 08:24:50 PM »
As most have know I have gone through a divorce and had to pay way more than I should have to get that done.  I now need to get the money together to go get my car and furnature.  Any help would be appreciated so I can get my car here and start working on it again.  Thanks in advance.  Gordon

You could explore getting your car and maybe other things it shipped to you. They compete against each other for your business.

I can get a truck and trailer for about 500 and then fuel costs and somewhere to stay as well so I think for around 800 for everything.  I am checking with my neighbor who is in the moving business might have an empty truck coming back next week I will know tuesday on that one.

Cant you use your durango and rent a uhaul trailer for the weekend?    I know divorces are expensive. Didnt your ex pay for everything up front first, then you had to pay like 600 bucks for your divorce?  Im glad it was un contested :2thumbs:  could of been a bunch more the other way.  I will be in Georgia this weekend. Im finally out of Cananda tonight :woo:  Customs and borders suck.

I am going to check with the base as well think they have a bigger trailer I might be able to get for a weekend or two.  The ones uhaul has are not too big but may just switch and get one for the weekend and even local maybe and be cheaper.  Will have to make more trips that way and the ex is being a bit of a b about the 60 day thing.  I could fight it and get longer still.  Still think I will have to get a sheriff to go with me to get my things.  I had to pay alot more than the 600 with all the costs.
Where you going to be in Georgia?

I have worked for a place that rented U-Haul, and I highly recommend Ryder if you need a truck. You'll pay a little more, but you'll know that there will actually be a truck when you get there to pick it up. If you look at the fine print in U-Haul's contract it says that they promise to get you a truck within three days of when you need it, and I frequently saw them use all of that time.

If you have to borrow the money to pay to haul your stuff away from your ex, "GET YOUR STUFF OUT NOW".  Seriously, these things have a way of ending badly if you leave anything of value with your ex.  I don't know her and don't know the issues that led to your divorce, but I've seen too many divorces where the ex-wife gets pissed at some point and the guys stuff just somehow disappears.  In every case, the courts have been useless getting anything back.  Not trying to spook you, and you're probably already worried about it enough.

Good luck, Jim

I know this to be true since it happened to me. She (my ex) took my Dodge Dakota extra cab V-8 truck against my will that was registered to me only with only me on the loan. The court threw me out saying they wouldn't get involved.

Keep in mind I was dealing with a Kangaroo court system in the boondocks up in the Sierras.

Judges up in the way back areas are a little   :screwy:

So I ended up forcing it to get re possessd by the Repo Man. I'll never forget that day. I was at work that faces the Hwy. and I saw it on the back of the Tow truck getting hauled away. I  :clapping: when I saw it going by. I called the Repo guy later and he said it was totally trashed. They tried to hide it in the garage.

It's been almost 10 years now and my credit is back to excellent thank God.

His Ex (my neighbor)  is not a monster of anykind.  She was suprised with this divorce.  Gordon had about 5 months to get his stuff just by coming down and moving it.  I will not go deaper into this, but I wish them both the best and hope all comes out right.

Well I wont get into exactly what went on with all of this I will keep it to myself.  Not as rosy as some would think though.  I am going to move it one way or another.  I will make measurements of it before I start working on it again after I move it.  I dont have to be in a hurry to get it done and I am glad of that.  I do miss it. I did not have the 5 months to move it without a fight either.  I could have gotten my things if I had of gotten a sheriff to go with me but did not think it was worth a fight at that time.

When I got divorced my ex told some friends that she was going to get my Challenger, regardless of what the courts said. Once I heard that I took it and hid it for 5 years, by which time she had lost interest in me and moved on to tormenting other sinners. So I agree with the idea that it needs to be moved.

That said, make sure you take all sorts of measurements before it's moved.

Storage units are $100 or less a month for one that will fit a car and some stuff.
