70 Cuda turn signal
« on: November 11, 2010 - 06:53:37 PM »
Got my car with no turn signal arm, so I have a few questions.
I got the 70 Plymouth service manual on CD and it is missing a few pages.

So is there something that attaches the turn signal arm to the cam?

I got a new cam harness, do I just have to remove the cylinder lock guard(for a lack of a better term) to get the old harness off and install the new one?

TIA

A long screw hooks the arm to the switch cam.   If you master pulling the crush can ok, I am betting it will be a no brainer for you   (with the screw).  Get the right switch tho. 70 is different from the rest

Thanks, I see where it connects now.

Any tips on getting the crush can off?

That's not an easy job if it has never been removed before. You will need a steering wheel puller.

I use a harmonic balancer puller and get 2 long bolts at the harware store to attach it to the splined coupler at the bottom. Do not use the 3 bolts where the wheel mounts or you will distort your crush can.   Most "cheap" tools stores have the puller for around $5.  Do not try to pull your wheel and can off while hammering on the threaded shaft. It might come off but will destroy the threads.

Not really it's just from checkers , it comes in a set, and that one worked the best,

be patient ,make sure the main center bolt is in line with the shaft,

and it is tight but it comes out with some elbow grease , i used an impact wrench and it comes off fast and easy

No, not any will work.

:nono: puller isnt the problem its the bolt length. these are pulley/damper pullers NOT column tools.  none of the pullers will come with the length needed . that is why i stated that you need to go to a hardware store and purchase the longer bolts.
