Headliner Bows

I looked around, did not see....How do I know if I need 4 or 5 bows?  Need to get a headliner, sails, and clips.  Thanks for the help.

1970= 5 bow
71-74= 4 bow

Some early 71's could have come with 5 bow headliners.

My 73 still has 5 places for the bows.  The factory didn't change the inner roof support.

I havn't tried to figure that one out yet.  I've still got my origonal headliner so figuring it out won't be difficult.

1970 Bows are shaped differently because they ride in clips that attach to the roof.  The 71 up bows insert into the roof frame.

4 bow uses the first 2 from the front , skipping the center cross member , then the last 2.
i will be making some bows soon.
if you should need some , keep this in mind.

Thanks for that. :thumbsup:

What hole do the bows use though?  There are three holes per area.  One to the front, one to the back and one up above in between the others.

that will be determined by the headliner. 3 holes are just 3 options for placement. youll see what i mean when you hang the headliner.

That is not always the case...I have come to learn that some plants use all the holes, while others skip them.

It looks like it doesn't it, an early liner in a later car will have a seam where there isn't a bow, unless you add an extra bow (but that should still come out OK).  A later liner in an early car will mean not using one bow (ditto).

I remember doing my '72 'cuda the bows did sort of find their own places in the various holes, somehow.

However, there are also differences at the sail panels where some cars have a liner which comes further down.

As it happens I have recently fitted a good '70 'cuda roof and side rails onto a '74 'cuda shell which had a totally shot away roof, so we shall see how that all works out !!

From what I have seen the side holes are in the same places and they are the same distance side to side.
