I believe the chrome box is for track racing only. Draws high current so gets hot therfore only good for short duration.

So whats my best bet here? The car want be on the road within the next week or so nor any time within the next couple of weeks, lol, but I'd like to have a plan.... If the more factory type stuff will work for me, then that's what I'll stick with, however, if it would be more in my best interest to upgrade to something else then... So,  :dunno:

Buy a Bosch BIM024 module or equivalent.VERY common.
Delete the chrysler ECU and ballast resistor.
Bridge the ballast resistor wires and wire up as follows

Lifted off Aussie forum Moparmarket

Easy as
In my challenger I mounted the BIM024 under a hollowed out orange box just for a little bit of originality looking.

Looked at that system and read entire ad. Looks like it would fly fine.
I think it's more than great there is a crew out there in our fine country making an ignition system for our Mopars. It is becoming way too hard to find automotive parts that aren't from somewhere else. I know the factory systems work well  but If they make one for 340 I will buy a set up.  Why not.. and support american made product.

The gurus over here reckon a modern HEI type coil works best but any coil seems to work fine.

Originally my challenger had an MSD Blaster 3 but i had to rob that for my barracuda for some reason and replaced it with an MSD BlasterSS.

My 67 slant 6 Valiant ute with this HEI conversion just uses an old stock OEM type coil.

Just type "BIM024" in the search function of MoparMarket and you'll find plenty of references to the conversion.

Oh..and if it doesn't fire straight away then swap the No.3 and 7 wires around.VERY common to get wrong.

Fundamentalist - LOL

I've been running the HEI on the 'cuda for over a year now and I think it's excellent.  The up market modules (like Mallory and Accel) are still cheap and supposed to be good for high revs (but I wouldn't know about that as I don't rev it much).

On my '72 Mustang I fitted HEI this year with a Ford TFI coil = awesome low impedence coil for about $25 on Rockauto, basically the same as a MSD E-core coil but without the price tag.  Just order one for a 1996 Mustang (that's if you don't mind using Ford parts on your Mopar - more LOL).

Here's my thread from when I did the 'cuda HEI:

Hey UK - just read your thread and someone mentioned heat sinking which prompted my memory on something I forgot to add.
The module should be mounted on an aluminium plate and then to the body with heat sink paste on both sides of the ally to dissipate ANY heat generated.
My challenger, valiant ute and ram are all fitted up this way.

Also read with interest the interference with factory tach.Mine works funny so that would explain it.Been toying with the idea of an aftermarket tach so your thread has made up my mind.Just easier for me.

As I put mine in a broken "gold box" it has quite a good finned heat sink on there.  I've checked it a couple of times and it doesn't even feel warm.  On a standard box the cooling is not as good but as I said in the other thread, there is plenty of room in the back for a good sized slab of ally.

Your little notch-back is really sweet by the way
