Pink Ice - thanks for the vote of confidence - being new to all of this, I wasn't sure how stupid i was being

I corresponded with Barry and unfortunately he has nothing on the car

BUT, I aslo spoke with Galen Govier's office and they do know the car and have had the fender tag filed with them prior to its being lost - i believe that he is willing to inspect the car and after confirming it is the one in his system make a fender tag for it - so that has made me really, really happy - and very curious to know what was on the fender tag - the inspection will cost and arm and a leg but in addition to the tag i figure i will learn a ton about the car all of which will help with the restorration process - so i think this has to be included in the purchase  price of the car - so i am back up to 18K for everything i had before but with the addition of a fender tag - 21K for investment in tools for restoration (so far)!

by the way, one option the seller said the car had that he though was a value adder is that it has fog lamps - would the fender tag bear something like that out? or is it only on the broadcast sheet or some other document?

I think you'll need at least that much or more to finish that car right.  I've seen good paint and body work cost that much.....

I am thinking along Cody's lines - i would like to think max 20K to restore the car - and take it down from there depending on how much i can do myself - so i can dissassemble and assemble (with a whole lot of help from all of you) - i can strip the body - i can restore smaller metal parts (like hood hinges, brackets and the like) the engine supposedly is freshly rebuilt... if that holds up, ok - but body/paint, re-upholstery, dash cluster and things like that i probably have to sub out

having just heard that, what sort of budget comes to your guys minds?

If you do everything yourself (I mean everything including paint and body work), you might be able to stay under 20K.  My guess is if you have someone else do the body work you'll be at 20K before you get it to put a part on it.  A good paint job can be 5K to 10K alone.  I'm doing my own body work and own a paint booth and I'll be near 20K before I start putting it back together.  You do not want to know how much it costs to do a real good job.  I also tend to do things the best I can.

I decided to do mine also. Whats good about DIY is you have control on how much gets done and how it gets done. When you do it yourself, you know that it never had any of the work short cutted or "fudged" as they say. Bodywork is a definite learning curve but so was mig welding and I taught myself that so why not bodywork too?

That was a waste in my eyes.  No build sheet nov fender tag, we could do just as good for free

Moparal - I don't follow - are you saying that because there is no build sheet it will not be possible to get the fender tags notwithstanding the inspection?

or are you saying that paying 2K for fender tags (well half or a little more is for travel) is a waste and just go without a fender tag because a fender tag without a build sheet is not worth anything - please clarify

Normally you be hard pressed to get a correct fender tag without a biuld sheet and I would agree Galen would be  a waste of money but if he already has the info on your car and can make you a fender tag after verifying the car then it is probably worth it.Cool car by the way!
