In that case I guess the billing software is to blame, not the state.Hopefully a letter can at least get the penalties and interest removed.

Thanks guys for the words of advise and encouragement! The agent advised me that if I write a letter to the commissioner stateing that this is causing me undo hardship that they might concider releasing the lean. She also told me that is a long shot. Being that I am a sole proprietor my credit score is crutial. Should I run into a cash flow situation its going to be 10 times harder for me to get help from a lender which could potentially put me out of business. I concider that a hardship. My idea is to gather the entire amount, walk into the tax office and see if they will not only lift the lean but to also clear it off my credit history.

The reason I wont screw around with the state of North Carolina is that I have a couple of buddies that own simular businesses and have got audited. If that was the case my fines could have been double or worse than me correcting my past returns. Not a chance I'm willing to take. At least this way I sell the engine out of the Cuda and keeping the car and restore it to boot. The other way would result in selling the entire car.

Your engine sounds very tempting.
If a don't pay my taxes I might be able to swing it.

sorry to see they hit you like that.  I`m no economist, but policy like that sounds unhealthy for companies to me... especially with this economy.  :screwy:

That is one of the major problems here, the Fed and state governments look at busines' as money pits and hit them from all directions even down to smaller cities and towns. The various taxes charged from various sources create sometimes great hardships and either force some small busineses to close or move away. I hate outsourcing, but it is not always the busines owner who is gready (although that certainly is sometimes the case) but the taxation involved and their dictatoratial position when problems arise. And one day ( like now) we will have fewer jobs and fewer busineses creating jobs. And the common everyday guy on the street is caught in the middle. It is not only sad but scary, a situation here that has been decling since the mid '70's and getting worse.

I've got somewhat good news. Things always seem to come in pairs for me but I went back over my credit report and found that within a day or two of my lien problem a credit card company made a mistake and reported my account as a late pay. I called them and they said they would correct the problem. I dont know how they did it but within 20 minutes (they told me it could be 30 to 60 days) my credit score went back up 75 Points and back into the 700s!!  :jumping: So hopefully it looks like the lien only killed my score by about 20 or so points. Even better news is it looks like my engine might be sold so I can get that off my back too.
