« on: November 15, 2004 - 11:59:48 AM »
I was just wondering if I built this 383 that I have if a 518 would bolt to it??

if it does will the slapstick shifter bolt to it and function properly??

Thanks!

no , the 383 has a larger bellhousing so it will not bolt up without an adapter

:-\  So where should one go about purchasing this adapter??  Right now with the 318 I am content with 3spd 727 but if I go to 383 I would like to have the overdrive option.  its an auto car and I would really hate to convert it to 5spd.  Anyone here on the site have any experience with 518 and adapter to a BB??  Thanks for any input??

a 383 will tear a A518 apart enless you beef it up because my uncle has taken many out with just a little 318.  and my cousin took alot out with a built 360..so my advice with going 518 is get it built and get it built right.

I will probably end up keeping the 727 with the hopes of one day upgrading it with  possibly gearvendors??? i just know that I am really gonna  want overdrive, but the 3.55's aren't too terrible on the hwy.

Thanks for the input guys nice to hear some experiences before learning the hard way!
