Hi - new guy here!
« on: November 19, 2010 - 08:39:15 PM »
Hi, decided to join this forum, as it seems quite interesting and full of information that I like!
I'm finally beginning to work on my AAR and it sure is fun. I purchased the car in 1997, drove it for a little bit (500 miles of cruising around) and then it sat parked until last year. I forgot how much fun it was, but it needs serious TLC. It's basically a survivor car (other than a repaint done in the mid 70's), has 97K on it and it shows. Loosey goosey front end, worn out upholstery and carpeting, tired engine, etc. Even still has old Cooper bias tires on it!
I just want to make it into a 20/20 car that I'm not afraid to drive and get paint scars.
I just bought a fresh 727 to put into it (the other thing not original on this car) and am currently building a small block stroker so I can tuck the #'s matching engine into a corner before I grenade it.
Looking forward to keep working on it and make some camaraderie on the forum!

Nice car!

Do you still have the original transmission still or where it went?
Build sheet and fender tags?

I have no idea where the original trans is - it was replaced somewhere along the way - the build sheet was a pile of slivers (thanks mice!) - yes, it does have the fender tags...
the only reason I'm lucky is because I bought the car when the common man could still afford these - I paid 12 grand for it back in '97 and my parents and in laws thought i was on drugs....but I really wanted a complete car that wasn't molested (other than the repaint, at least they kept the original color) - the cars previous to this were a '71 Challenger R'T (383, 3 speed!) and '71 Duster w/340 (but both those were hack jobs)...I also have a '70 Coronet wagon to keep the AAR from being lonely.

Alaska T/A did a thread on resurrecting mice shredded build sheets a while ago. Regardless you should be able to get a reproduction build sheet re made for it as long as the dash vin and fender tags match. They even make the door vin stickers too.

Look inside the seat back covers, above the glove box. Barry knows all the hidden places they are found. So you might have another somewhere in the car.

Check with Jeff on the website I mentioned for a copy of your build sheet. Many times these cars had more than one build sheet. Mine had 2. He might have a copy of yours. His website says there are 107 un-claimed build sheets for AAR's.
