Heavily modified 70 Barracuda-6speed/Gen 3 Hemi

Bought this car off Craigslist in 2008. It is a B5/B5 vinyl top gran coupe with 383/auto/AC. I did not get an engine/trans/fender tag with the car. It just sat in my garage until this summer. I started cutting the floor pans out in May. I was just going to to do patches but I Just kept cutting.....

By the end I had cut out front/rear floorpans, trunk pan, both quarters, quarter extensions, rear filler panel, and tail panel. I dropped the car off on Friday for an aluminum oxide blast. The car was ready yesteday at 4pm, so I hauled it home, wire wheeled a few spots, blew out the oxide, pulled it in the shop, and threw DP90 on it last night. Got in bed at 3:15 and the baby cried/screamed for an hour...it was really tough to make it to work this morning....

Wow, after you cut out the cancer, you only had half a car left. 

It looks like a great project though.

What are your plans for it?

The car is going to be a cruiser. I am leaning towards an EFI 5.7/6.1 conversion for the weight savings (125 lbs under a small block!!!) and reliability of fuel injection. It will also get handling upgrades like sub frame connectors, inner fender supports, XV tubular radiator support, all Moog front end components, front/rear sway bars, Mopar performance Hemi leaf springs and Hemi T-bars. Brakes will be discs up front, drums in rear. I will keep the B5/B5 combination, but haven't decided if I want to break up the paint with some black accents. I don't think I will do the vinyl top again....haven't decided. It doesn't have a fender tag so why not have fun with it!

My neighbor blasted his 68 firebird before cutting and for months, aluminum oxide has been falling our of cracks and pockets where it got wedged. Plus, you have to be so much more careful around clean or freshly primed-I was just able to grind/cut/hack away. This way seemed to work really well for me. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that there was not enough structure to mount it on a rotisserie. With the quarters, rear filler panel, and floor pan out, the back half of the car is very flimsy.

     All of you that restore the basket cases deserve more than a pat on the back.  In the early 90's Mopars were parted out rather than restoring them. Camaro's and Mustangs are a dime a dozen.  My son is restoring a Barracuda. His blue Barracuda is not as good as it looks in the pic..trunk, floor, frame rail and more rusted out.  This is before the restoration it will be Sassy Grass and white interior w/440 when finished.

Change of plans! I am definitely going with a 6.1L. I am going with a 6 speed and I am planning on a TR6060 out of a Challenger SRT8. I also decided on an alterktion front suspension. It will be a pro-streeter......

After a year.........my body guy finally started on my car. Here is how it looks now. This is the approximate stance/height I am going for. What do you think?
