Trans brake?
« on: November 23, 2010 - 05:10:28 PM »
:feedback: OK, guys gotta question for you Trans brake what is it, how does it work.

A racer friend told me before I put on nitrous I should start using this brake.

He said it would make a day and night difference.
And then add the nitrous.

It sounded a little complicated.
Can I do it myself with a little tutelage from a transmission man?
I want this car to be my creation(I know I am reinventing the wheel)
Just bear with me!

P.S. the car has front and rear locks whats up with that?
My friend said it was used in order to get fully torqued up without sliding out.

For the most part, a trans brake locks up the trans not the wheels and drive shaft. Useing front and rear line locks binds up everything and isnt a good way of launch control. You would actually lock the front and do a burn out to get the tires hot, then use the brake at the line while staging. Some use a back line lock to keep the fluid from going to the back brakes for the burn out. Front is usually the way most do it.

Do your nitrous first and get it working for your tune.  You may not be able to hook launching on the brake and nitrous out the hole. It takes a good chassis tune to do that.  my opinion

I used one when I raced. It locks the trans while adding reverse when in first gear. Revererse is dumped when 12v to the solenoid is removed, then it's all 1st gear.  With this you can launch your car at or above your toque converter''s stall speed without your trans rolling through the lights. The 2-step is wired  in with it, controlled by your delay box or shifter switch. You'll have to upgrade your torque converter to have a blow proof sprag and anti-balloon plate, which you might have to get anyway if you're running nitrous.   Converter will cost you $1500 and up.......

Mark, trans brakes BREAK sh*t!! Just like a Clutch breaks parts when you continuously dump the clutch...
In order to get a tranny, rearend, chassis, etc. to hold up, not only are you out the money on the brake kit, but all these other parts to make it work...

Bottom line when running Nitrous if you dead bent on running it? If you don't get 'em out the gate, reel 'em in like a catfish on top end..Ifn' you got enough engine, you shouldn't have a problem...Don't worry bout drag racing for the money at the track, as you'll be on the trailer before you knopw it running Nitrous as it just isn't consistent..Run it for why it has it's reputation...Balls out, fast as you can go, braggin' rights on Test and Tune night..
