The only problem I have with using Matrix is the color may not be a perfect match if you're trying to panel paint, but there is only a slight chance of better match if I use DuPont Chromabase or SW Ultra7000, trust me, I've used just about every paint line and don't see a reason to pay double or triple for something that can be had for fraction of the cost with same results, I do high end custom paint work and absolutely have zero doubts about using Matrix,I've used it on all my cars,my customer's cars and guarantee my work for life,do you think I'd give lifetime warranty on my paint if I used sh!tty materials?

dang price code H. i dont think ive ever saw an H in the few years ive been mixing ppg paint. heck i think my fe5 red concept is a d or an e and thats high around 425 a gallon retail.

if you want i could price all this stuff to you and possibly save you some bread but i dont know if the shipping would eat up all the savings.

So I talked to my paint guys and they said that Matrix paint is PPG's paint that failed quality control and you have a 50/50 chance of getting a "good" batch which will still fail after a few years (most of the time). They all agree that if you care about your car you will not spray Matrix paint on it.

matrix is based on ppg.
its a company started by a former ppg chemist.
we use it every day, zero issues other than a perfect match may or may not happen.
ive painted all my cars with it, and im pretty sure all the comments i receive are justified.

What a crock of sh!t! That's your true facts? As I said before, I have used it for about 15 years and the only issue Matrix has is a perfect colormatch right out the can,(which typical for any paint system,including the almighty PPG along with Dupont,ICI,Glazurit,Sikkens and others,I've sprayed them all) but if a shop is equipped with mixing rack,it can always be adjusted,Matrix provides a real sprayout swatches and there are alternates in database .

Want me to tell you what I like about Matrix? Unbelievable coverage, which can be achieved in two coats,sometimes even one coat, and that's with big contrast between primer and the color of the base. I absolutely love their AG40 high-solids clear,because it has no solvent-pop no matter how much you hose on,it doesn't die back and the wet look is just amazing,given that you know how to lay down the clear with no trash and orangepeel .

Want me to tell you a reason why I keep using Matrix? Because I can not see a reason and justify spending three times for a brand name paint that yields same results as Matrix at fraction of the cost,still have same matching issues as Matrix. In over 20 years running my own shop I have NEVER had to redo any warranty work because I used Matrix materials and as I mentioned before, I warranty my work for life. I have absolutely no reason to lie and I am not sponsored by Matrix or get any kind of kickbacks by them, I simply like their product and wish some other car guys ,who are on a budget could save a buck without sacrificing quality and durability,because this paintline is proven and it works.But don't take my word for it, test id for yourself.I know of no less than a dozen of local shops using Matrix for as long as I have and they are still using it ,wouldn't you think if they had consistent problems with it, would they still be using it?Would I still be using it? Don't think so.
Don't knock on it if you haven't tried or used it. Or get some real facts ,proof,not some BS from someone that tries to talk down on Matrix and shops that use it to justify their wasted money on PPG

I'm not going to get in a pizzing match with people on here. I have seen Matrix painted cars and have talked with several high end show car painters (ie paint jobs that start at $30k), and will never allow Matrix products within a mile of any of my cars. For those of you that enjoy your Matrix paint have fun.

So far I don't even see any weight of a real argument ,so there is no battle. As I said before, you have zero facts that Matrix is failed PPG quality control product.No hard proof or evidence ,i.e. documented photos and any other material to support your opinion . What you or any of your buddies or the rest of the world uses to paint cars or how much they pay for materials or a paint job or what they charge for a paint job doesn't make Matrix bad. I've only used PPG on my cars. Never had a problem. Feel free to use whatever paint you want. It's your car.

We all have different tastes and preferences along with different standards. Use the best paint your budget allows and the self satisfaction that comes from knowing you did your best will allow you to not feel the need to justify your decision by convincing others to use the same as you.

Also, if you were even halfway tempted to buy Matrix based one line of text posted on an internet forum, you might want to at least research it a little yourself. PPG does a ton for the community. Here's the last two weeks donations for PPG:

Oh ya, the "big wigs" at Matrix also own waterfront villas with multiple yachts, take fancy vacations AND eats baby kitties salted with gold dust for breakfast. That's why they need you to believe people that tell you to buy his paint on the internet.... not because there better. (of coarse this is joke as I'm sure stefan's comment was joke. Does stefan expect us to believe he really knows the big wigs at PPG's personally and know's their vacation habits and personal homes or that the owner of Matrix doesn't have a nice boat or a nice car that the consumers of Matrix paid for?)

CODY, Thanks and I agree with you,all big wigs like to enjoy the luxury,lol.

I just simply wanted to see and hear the real facts on why Matrix is garbage as 72hemi thinks, that's all.I know PPG is good product and just about any paint brand,it's all about preference,convenience,cost and support ,they all have similar color matching issues ,similar outcome,e.t.c. Some may dry faster,some may go on heavy,some may take more coats to get coverage,but it all boils down to who sprays it and how well he knows the product and the equipment he's using and I truly believe, if you practice spraying the product, get to know your spraying equipment, it won't matter what brand label is on the can,well up to a certain degree. I know that some of the cheap clears have low UV protection properties,but I can attest AG40 is not one of them.And as for their basecoat,both MSB and MPB covers very well,IMO alot better than Chromabase .

Years ago I found a tip for finding out if clear you're using has good amount of UV blocking properties. Just take a newspaper and give it 2-3 coats of the clear,let it dry and place it on a dashboard of a car that you know will sit for long time, I did that test and had that piece of newspaper for about 6 years on a dashboard of a car and you could still read it,just like the day it was sprayed.then I junked the car.

If there are any problems, with any brand, usually it will show within days,most of the problems are created by the painter or bodyman,i.e. not enough flash time,too heavy coats,water in air,contaminated air supply or just poor filtration ,e.t.c. ,which reminds me of someone I know that used to run a shop next door, he couldn't figure out why he had fisheyes and it was only on primered areas, turns out they were using another air compressor with cheap filter for bodywork and priming,which had bad rings and let the oil into the air supply, but the primer was heavy and thick enough to drown the contamination .So everytime they shoot basecoat over primer,it would fisheye like crazy,it took them few months to figure out the problem,they tried different primers,fillers,even switching to another brand paint line.

i think youre getting a fair shake on the materials. i priced your list as though i was selling the same stuff to a local shop. bottom line was i can save you about 12 bucks

Thanks, I checked a few places after and they definitely are good prices. I presumed right off that out of state pricing would be significantly less. Now it seems thats not the case. TCPGlobal in S.D. was way high, like 3-400 more. I was surprised figuring they would be the lowest.

I'm not sure you have enough paint. I bought 2 gals of base and 2 gals of clear (2021) and I'll be starting paint in a week or so. I'll let you know how much I go through. You'll want to batch your paint if you have more than 1 gal, so it's best to get it all at the same time.

When are you going to start painting?
