    Hi everybody! I have finally gotten around to joining this site. After coming here several times I have figured out this one is the best for information. My name is Thomas and I have a ’70 Challenger R/T, originally a 383 4spd car that had a 440 in it when I got the car over 25yrs ago. I have still have the original 4spd (it just needs to be completely gone through) and am keeping my eyes open for a somewhat of a correct date code 383. No plans in the immediate future for a restoration, but one day I may get to it. Right now the car is fun to drive and really don’t have the room right now to tear it apart.  Main question right now would be with a 9/69 build date on the car, what date range of engine should I be looking for, or does it really make that big of a difference at this point?

    Hi Thomas,

    Welcome aboard.  From my perspective, it's not numbers matching so it really only matters to you and the more it matters, the more you are going to pay!  Which is why I would be looking for a 440 that met my general criteria, including budget.

    Well here is a better pic. The more I have been thinking about the engine I think I willjust get another 440 block and build a stroker motor, it's not like after 25years I am planing on get rid of it any time soon.

    typically 3-4 month lead for a block , so you want a 5 or 6 /69 block to date match
