    Its 8k only have 7k for budget atm oh well

    Its a 318 Auto Needs trunk replace, it's salvage but guy doesn't know why and was parked in 1991.

    For what it`s worth I paid 8K for my "72" about 3 months ago was originally 6 cyl now has 318 w/automatic solid body,floors and trunk 58,000 miles on body.I found mine on Craigslist.I wanted to offer less than his asking price but I knew it wouldn`t last if I tried to haggle so I gave him what he wanted.A friend of the guy delivering it to me offered the seller 9K to buy it out from under me.Thankfully the seller was a standup guy and honored the deal he made with me.By the way a "72" Barracuda in Massachusetts is based on Kelly blue book value at $13,000 so I had to pay sales tax on that price,tack on another $875 for tax and title!I say if it`s what you want go for it,but if you can get it for less thats even better.Me I didn`t care what year the car was 70-74 as long as it was solid and running.

    Just re-read your post my gut tells me it will need more than a carb rebuild and timing chain to get it running,if you can`t hear it run I wouldn`t offer 8K the motor/tranny,  rear end could be shot for all you know.I don`t mean to knock the car it does look like it has potential but to me looks ain`t everything it`s gotta run too. He found you,you didn`t find him I bet he would take less than 8K he knows what you want to pay so he`s gonna try to pry more $$ from you.If you were going to walk away why not make an offer worst he can do is say no.I would offer $5,500 as is without hearing it run or drive,if you can get it running and driving offer $6,500 or whatever your budget allows.

    My last piece of advice if you offer him a lowball number you run the risk of pissing him off and he may not take you seriously or want to deal with you at all. If you plan on trying him again down the road stay on his good side. If your plan is to walk and not look back shoot him an offer and see what happens, if you end up with the car and find a better Cuda later on you can always sell this one and if you got it for the right price you might even make a buck on it!Good Luck!

    In Maryland, you can get a notarized Bill of Sale to state the paid price and pay tax on that, of course I always pay $500 for anything older than 1980.

    Thanks for the advice and info guys much appreciated. For me 8ks id way to high plus wouldn't want to pay that much nor could afford that  :poopoke: There's more out there  :bigsmile: This is the 8th barracuda Ive tried to buy this year LOL

    You can do the same thing in FL.  Although the government isn't stupid.  You can't claim $500 for a hemi Cuda.  It has to at least look like a fire sale.

    Go see the car.  Offer the guy $6500 cash.  It's a tough market to sell a car in these days.  That gives you $500 to get it running.   If you have to offer the whole wad.  I'd be wiling to bet you get the car.

    But the guy said multiple times he wouldn't take less then 8k
    So I figure just continue the search I rather have a 70 anyways  :bigsmile:
    Hopefully my budget will start to get bigger soon  :2thumbs:

    7K for a Rust free E-body? Good luck with that one..And it needs to be a 1970? Super Good luck with that one...I'm afraid the marker will stick out from the fenders for that cheap a pricetag being rust free...

    I think you can find a decent 70 for $7k, but you will have to look hard and almost certainly have to travel for it, so I guess travel and trailer costs would bring the price up. So, yes, in the end it wont be easy to keep that budget.
    I still say keep looking for that 70 that you really want though.
    Think about it. You will be spending years on it, and it will be a part of your life, so you need THE car that you WANT. Dont settle.
    Besides. Do you really want to spend the same amount of time on labor, and money on parts, to end up with a car worth maybe HALF AS MUCH?
    72-74s are great cars too, but will probably never be worth nearly as much as 70-71s.
    I feel bad for the red headed 72s. Just because they never came with hemi's or big power, people piss on em. It's not right, but thats the way it is. :2cents:

    It does seem like 72`s don`t get any love you can`t even get seat foam for them!I agree with your point for the original poster tommyg,if he wants a 70 then he should get a 70 the only way I would compromise if I were him is if a 71-74 was just too good a deal to pass up.

    Question would using a grill and rear valance for the square tail lights from a 70 work on a 72-74 model for a 70 tribute look or is there more to it?I purposely left out the  71 model in my question since I don`t think anyone in their right mind would do such a thing.I can see it now almost got my 70 tribute look done all I have left to do is fill in those unsightly fender gills! :eek4:
