72 Barracuda Hidden for 19 years!

Cooter I never said I was looking for a rust free e body especially a 70. I just don't want a rust bucket. I don't mind metal work but I don't want to replace everything on a car either. That 72 needs a new trunk and most likely trunk extensions. As for my budget that's my budget I'm no where near wealthy.

I'm going to keep looking for that 70 hopefully next year I'll find one !

Also thought about  turning a 72-74 into a 70 but to me it wont be the same

I have yet to find an eBody that didn't need at least a driver floor, trunk extensions & 1/4 extensions

Why not? I did it with my Challenger from 1972? Took a plain jane '72 Chally, Welded in the fender markers from a 1970, replaced the rear valance with 1970 (Dual cutouts for $80.00, and didn't fit worth two pinches of puppy sh*t), got the 1970 Grille/headlight bezels, Welded in rear tail panel, Done.

I don't know bout the Cuda's, but I would think that the Cuda shouldn't be all that much different than me having to weld in the headlight buckets from a 1970 to a 1972 Challenger to convert it...With all the AMD metal out there nowadays, it shouldn't be a problem for anybody to have to say "It's an original 1970 Cuda"...

Afterall, I have to explain to everybody that my Chally ain't no "Hemi Cuda" to most every punk kid with his GF that comes up to it exclaiming how much he loves "Hemi Cudas"...

i am converting a 73 to a 70 / i also like the 71 tail lights soo i will change tail lights when i want a different look . i dont like the grill of a 72-74 so as soon as money comes in i will replace it with a 70 grill . the fenders qpanels will be 70-71 . only the pureists will know .

It seems to me that you are a very patient guy Mean Green! Something will turn up, I'm sure.... but plan on some rust or dents (unless its someones jilted wife "getting even").

Some people Love the '72-'74 Chally and Cudas, but most like the '70-'71...Some things like markers that stick out front the fenders and those huge, ugly(IMO) bumper guards, etc...

Bumpers that sit anywhere from 1"-4" off the body on a body that had the bumpers up flush mounted not two years earlier, seem to resenate with people as "ugly"...

1970 Challenger that "only" needs about 25 hours in the body.....$10K and up...
1972 Challenger that needs to be converted, that needs about 250 Hours in the body.....$3K and another $2K in 1970 stuff....

Yea I know its not hard to convert the years But I do plan on having a cuda/barracuda for a very long time and I just prefer it to be a real 70 rather then a clone.

Also Ive seen that barracuda for sale before I believe last time he wanted 8500 But I don't think I can afford the car plus shipping for around 7k considering I'm in cali Seems Ill have to wait more.

I would suggest moving your 7K up to or as close to 10K as possible.  If the market starts to go back up again you will be out of luck if you wait too long to buy a 70.  There is a possibility of the market going up or at least maintaining where it is without the economy going up.  As the dollar's value falls when compared to other currencies, our old cars become more attractive to foreign buyers.  I agree with waiting until you get a good deal.  If you wait too long, you may not see one at 10K either.  It is a gamble.   It is like playing the stock market.  You have to make an educated guess at how much to spend and when to spend it. I wish you luck in your search.

Keep looking!  It took me a little over two years to find mine.  And I paid $10,000 for it.  It was complete but needing work.




For $7000 you may need to settle for a car missing the motor or misc parts.  They are out there.

Hey bud.  I don't know your age or financial limits, but I'd like to share my 2cents.

Restoring these cars can be rewarding.  But if it is your first time at bat, a car that is finished or nearly finished will give you more of that immediate satisfaction of driving it.  The restoration process will be expensive and keep you off the road for a long time; usually longer than intended.

Thanks Joe Even If i want it, I couldn't afford that atm. Yeah would be my first project but I'm more then ready I got access to any tool, welders, lifts, and paint booths which ofc will keep cost down and do plan on doing the the work and paint myself. I'm 21 btw
