Best way to obtain a Dana 60??

I'm looking for a complete rear end that is ready to bolt in to my e body. I have looked at the complete units from Moser and Strange. Am I better off going through one of those companies or having on built locally??

Dr Diff can build them too , at least this way everything is new & gone through

Well, I got a stock style Dana 60 under two of my cars CHEAPER than I could get a 3.55:1 Sure Grip 8 3/4...


I only have $300.00 in my Dana 60 B and E body rears.....Of course, i had to fab a pinion snubber, but what the hell...Better than $2500.00 for a "new" Dana 60...

Dr. Diff sells the weld on mounts to bolt on the pinion snubber.

Add One 3/4 ton "Truck" rear that I got with 3.55:1 Sure Grip for the low,low price of $150.00, remove "truck" parts myself, Cut old E-body 8 3/4 rear axle tubes at proper length, Weld on Axle tubes to "truck" Dana 60 along with brakes and axles from 8 3/4 rear myself, take 8 3/4 pinion snubber from '66 and '72 8 3/4 rears, cut and modify, reweld to fit Dana 60, drill two mounting holes in Dana 60 webbing, DONE...

Wow! Learned  something new today? I didn't know 8 3/4 Axel splines fit into a Dana rear end? So if the axles are the same diameter ( I assumed they would be bigger?) then what's the advantage of a Dana? Just the bigger ring gear and assembly?

I've built a few 9" ford housings/rear ends and I always have to straighten them after welding? I built a jig for doing this. Did you check to see if it was straight after welding?

I know it's straight.....1/4" thick metal is HARD to warp..V-Blocks and a welder...Yes, I too was amazed at the fact that all this sh*t was talked about a Dana 60, when 8 3/4 axles SLIDE RIGHT IN..It ought to be a crime what some folks charge just for a 1" bigger ring gear. Now, with that said, the aftermarket rears may have 40 spline axles in 'em, but for what I'm doing, the aftermarket 8 3/4 axles work jsut fine @ stock spline...

You can always upgrade your "truck" Dana later on if you want the badass 40 spline stuff..You just need to order the appropriate spider gears and axles to convert it....

I think the Dana had 3 different spline counts. Before a certain year the spline count was the same as the 8-3/4. Anyone know those years?

my 78 truck dana was a 30 count spline like an 8 3/4   but I changed it out to a 35 and moser.  The dana I got for CudaGuy is a 30 spline out of a 76 ford 3/4   .  I think the 68/69 car dana was an 18 spline cant remember, turkey has me sleepy

I think most Dana 60s came with the 30 spline count. When I raced I also upgraded to a 35 spline spool and aftermarket axles for the strength.

As long as it's a 3/4 ton truck Dana, it's the same....I've converted these from Jeep J-20 Pick-ups, Fords, Chevys, Dodges, and Internationals...

All the same as long as it's a 3/4 ton...BTW: I got a set of badass, double damn, 35-40 Spline, narrow axles, with 3" studs, For sale if anybody wants 'em....I too thought the Dana 60 had these HUGE axles in it, until I bought these at Carlisle and they wouldn't fit...
