I kind of get tired of the "we've all done it before" line.  I haven't, and I know a bunch of other people who have never street raced before.  I have no problem with them seizing their cars and selling them.  If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.  This might sound a bit extreme, but to me driving 120 in a 40 zone where it is known that people will be is no different than walking around those same streets with your finger on the trigger of a loaded gun.  One slight hiccup and someone could very easily die.

saw this on a bumper sticker today, and it is so true:

liberal thinking is KILLING AMERICA

throw the bums in jail and take their license away, but seizing property is wrong.
Just like government taking over car companies, insurance companies etc etc
The foot of socialism is in the door and is starting to shove it open with little effective resistance. Not enough people are visciously indignant about it.
The founding fathers were right, and a LOT wiser than most give them credit for. They learned the hard way, which always provides the best lessons.
Its just plain wrong wrong wrong, and I wonder where it all started going south. :clueless: :(

The debate continues...

I have no dought the 2 in this case deserved severe punishments. Thats not the point. These type of laws that allow seizure of personal propery are going to effect all of us someday down the road (so to speak).

And one more point about this...Laws get amendments all the time. We hardly even know of these amendments or know the real wording of said laws till it effects us personaly.

The same questions still stand... :2cents:

Its just plain wrong wrong wrong, and I wonder where it all started going south. :clueless: :(

It all started going south (sorry southerners) when "We, The People" decided that we would give up our liberty and freedom for security, sometime in the late 60's early 70's.

We want the government to take care of us and protect us from harm and enemies.  Security has become such a big moneymaking business that the Government Inc. creates false and overblown threats to justify taking our freedom so it can make more millions for the favored few.  A frightened electorate is much easier to control!

If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.  This might sound a bit extreme,

Problem is, the government can then make anything it chooses a "crime." As the old saying goes, "When they came for the Poles, I didn't say anything, because I wasn't a Pole. When they came for the Catholics, I didn't say anything because I wasn't a Catholic. When they came for the Jews, I didn't say anything because I wasn't a Jew. When they came for me, there was no one left to say anything."

"She'll make point five past light speed. She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, and I've made a lot of special modifications myself."

I used to have a pretty hard and heartless attitude toward lawbreakers.

But as more laws are passed, and as I learn more about unaccountable law enforcement, my attitude has done a complete change. Now, I would rather take my chances with criminals on the loose than cops and politicians. In fact, the older I get the more I come to believe cops and politicians ARE the real criminals.

Isn't our government a conglomeration of elected officials put into power by 'We the people'?  Yes, there are some positions that are appointed, but they are appointed by individuals we have elected into the office that does the appointing.  We are the ones who control who is in political power, not the politicians themselves. We are the ones that voted and got the law makers inplace that make laws such as the one in discussion in theis thread.  Thus, aren't we responsible for having laws like this in place?

Another thing that just fries my back side is people who voice negative opinions about laws, bills, etc... that are put in place and they did nothing or little to nothing to prevent it.  I'm talking about voting, going to a town hall meeting, writing a letter to your mayor, congressmen, senator, or even the president himself.  I hear folks at work or when I'm out socially complaining about this or that and I'll ask them - what did you do to influence it?  The answer is usually nothing or I voted for the other guy.  At least voting is something.  The 1st Amendment gives them that ability, but they don't get much airtime with me.  Nothing changes without action.  If you and I don't take action, who will?

Sean, the logic of you and me being responsible for the laws on the books is only slightly true, and breaks down at several points. The first of which is the fact we live in a representative democracy, not a pure democracy. In a pure democracy we would vote on every single bill, yes or no. "Should people be shot for jaywalking?", yes or no. "Should possession of marijuana be punished by life in prison?', yes or no. We would continually be dragging ourselves to the voting booth. So, the system was set up so that we would choose representatives to do this for us.

Unfortunately, this isn't the best deal either for two reasons. First, our choice of representatives having any chance of actually being elected is extremely limited. Second, none of the choices perfectly represents our own viewpoints. So we vote for some guy who promises to ease the concealed-carry laws, but this guy is also just as likely to vote for confiscating the Ferrari of street racers. The guy who promises to hold cops feet to the fire for their misdeeds is also just as likely to vote for taking polluting muscle cars off the road.

So, voting in America is kind of like shopping for groceries in Russia. You gotta do it, but your choices sometimes suck.

I hear what you're saying.  Rings loud and true.  Voting sometimes feels like you're faced with picking the better of two evils!

If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

Doing time is one thing. Having your personal property stolen is another. So two crimes equal justice??

Your in a bank. A masked man walks in, orders everyone to the floor. He walks out with a bag full of cash, and you grab a couple 20's he dropped on your way out. Are you not a thief too? Or did two wrongs make everything alright?

Stealing is stealing. You can paint it behind a veil of punishment, and doing good, but it's still stealing.

Watch the first 5 min of this movie and you'll see our future.

They discover that the world has degenerated into a dystopia where advertising, commercialism, and cultural anti-intellectualism run rampant and dysgenic pressure has resulted in a uniformly stupid human society devoid of individual responsibility or consequences.

Its got electrolytes..

seen it, and its hilarious!
I love the special effects scenes showing skyscrapers tied together with rope in the background, and cars driving off unfinished expressway ramps and falling into big piles.

Nowhere in the US constitution or declaration of independence is the word "Democracy" used. Because we are not a democracy. That word wasn't used until the days of FDR. We are a republic, a representative form of government. In a democracy the mob rules.
