Correct Size Tires for 15x7 Rallye Rims...
« on: December 01, 2010 - 09:34:37 PM »
Hello-
new to the forum and just purchased a real 70 440+6 Cuda.  It currently has Radial TA tires on it and I would like to get the roodyear Polyglass GT tires.

What are the correct size tires for the front and rear.  I do not believe the car has the "hemi" fenders.
Thanks in advance.

Bill

What are "Hemi" fenders? Hear it often, but never thought to ask...

Thanks everyone for the valuable input..

How much of a real noticable height difference is there between "F" and "E" series?
If there difference is more width than height, I will purchase the "E" series.
I would rather the tire which fills the wheel-well up a better, without being grossly to large.

I will most likely have to get a new speedo gear once I find out just how far off the MPH's are.

In your opinion, who is the best Vendor to purchase restoration/aftermarket parts from?
Im more concerned with fit/finish/correctness than saving a couple bucks here and there.

Are the AAR Front & Rear sizes same for the TA?

What would the modern day radial tire size equilvant be to the E60-15 and G60-15 tires?

The 235/60/14-15 Is about the same as the 'ol skool "G60"..
The 'ol skool "L60" is around a 275/60/14-15
The 'ol skool "N50" around a 295/50/14-15

However, today it would seem there are ALOT of oddball tire sizes available..I just bought two 245/60/15 which are wider than a 235, but narrower than a 275/60...
Then, there's the 305/50/15, the 325/50/15 and so on...

Quickie tire sizing info:
On a 235/60R15, 235 is the width in millimeters. 60 is the sidewall ratio...the sidewall height will be 60% of the width. The 15 is the rim diamter in inches. A 255 is roughly 10" wide at the sidewall. A 255/60R15 will be 10" wide with a 6" sidewall and will be roughly 27" tall.

Hope that helps.

Yes, both same on AAR & T/A.
225/50R15 & 245/60R15 looks closest to same on radial tires, but i think at tread of old bias ply tires are wider anyway.
Radial tires also rolling a little lower than bias, so maybe the 235 & 255 is better?

So if I understand correctly, the modern tire equilvent for a TA would be Front 235/60/15  and Rear 255/60/15, correct?

ps: Bill, sorry if I hijacked your thread.
