hey

do you all think four tires at  $1025.00 (F60-15)   is a fair price?

Yes, both same on AAR & T/A.
225/50R15 & 245/60R15 looks closest to same on radial tires, but i think at tread of old bias ply tires are wider anyway.
Radial tires also rolling a little lower than bias, so maybe the 235 & 255 is better?

Sounds high to me.  Seems like I paid around $700 for my 2 245/60/15 & 2 275/60/15 BFG TA Radials including a front end alignment (around $75) so close to $600 just for the tires including mounting, balancing, taxes, etc.  Of course it totally depends on the tires themselves, but in that size I'm betting you're buying similar tires to my TA's.

And if you're running 15x7 rallyes on all four corners I'd go with 245/60/15 pm front and 255/60/15 on back.  I'm running 15x8 on the back and the 275's fit great with that size rim but would be too wide for the 7" wide rims.

Bill,

Again, plz forgive my intrusion on your post.

As some of you may have heard, there isn't any current production supply or scheduled date for making BFG 235/15's.  Please let me know if anyone has access to two new tires as I had my heart set on BFG 235 x 15 on the front and 255 x 15's on the rear (stock rallye wheels) for my TA.

If I can't locate the 235's for the front, what BFG RWL TA's would you guys then recommend for my car?

hey ---

no  probem   :)

glad that others can get good info from the post.....

What I was trying to get some input on was the cost of Reproduction GoodYear F60-15 tires.
The car I am buying next week has correctly sized Radial TA on the 15x7 rims.  I want the period correct tires for it.

IS $1025 for a complete set a decent price?

Check out this link.  It's for a supplier of the bias ply tires.  You could call him and see what he has for prices.  Not sure if this is the same seller you already have in mind.

I talked with Logan over at Summit today and he noted their normal BFG RWL 235/60 15 tires under part number 54712 were discontinued, but they have the same tire listed under part number 09082 and actually have an expected delivery date of 03/18/11!  Being shipped out of Nevada, I should expect my order by 03/23/11!  He indicated there are a whole bunch of customer orders for this tire and they expected to be able to fill all of them.  I hope this good news comes true!

After many broken promises over at Summit Racing, I finally got my hands on a set of BFG 235 60 15's for the fronts over at Discount Tire to match up with the BFG 255 60 15's going on the rears.  Seams these tires remain in very limited supply at present.  Hope the future of these tire sizes is brighter or we may be in trouble.

Have you looked at Coker Tire http://www.cokertire.com/ or Diamond Back Tire http://www.dbtires.com/ I also believe Sumit and Jegs are retail outlets for both of these companies and can save you a bit on pricing. However, a reproduction bias ply is a specialty tire and will cost quite a bit more than an equivlent radial in a similar size. In that light, $1000+ for 4 is probably as good as it going to get. Also, are you familir with the handling difference between the bias play and radial? Radial tire tolerate a wider range of alignment settings than bias plys, so often a car will behave better with radials than a bias ply and may require the alignment to be reset to avoid premature wear of the bias plys. This change in alignment may create a situation where the car becomes more unsettling to drive than it was previously.

I'm still  at a loss why so many people clamor for BFG tires when they have all but abondoned the classic car market and have a carcass/tread design that was last updated nearly 20 years ago. There are much better tires at better prices out there offered by Firestone, Goodyear, Cooper, Mickey Thomspon, Mastercraft, and others.

Check this web site for Goodyear poly bias tires.  >>>  http://www.kelseytire.com/home.html
Skip intro.  click on performance Series.  Click on Performance 2

I purchased the E-60x15 and  F-60x15 for my AAR.  This is the original tires for the AAR.
F60 was to keep the rear up to protect the side exhaust from scrapping the road etc.
Also if you can have them shipped to a garage or shop the shipping is cheaper.
Purchased BFG 245 60x15 for my Gran Cpe Convertible.

60 Series has a wider tread and short sidewall making for a fatter beefy tire.

70 Series has a thin tread and tall sidewall skinny looking.

Smaller size on front will look like a dragster.
