Challenger w/MT28*12.50
« on: November 19, 2004 - 09:33:44 AM »
Greetings enthusiast,

this is "specifically" for Plumpak cause he's troubling with the rear  :grinno:
So I though to shoot some pics of my beefy rear if somebody is looking for modified rear installation
Chally has spring rel kit from MP, front hanger is custom build but it's pretty much similar to MP kit (MP is designed for super stock springs and I'm running with orig leafs). Leafs are redo, custom shaped from originals... they're stiffer and designed more into "strip-ride"  :grinyes: :grinyes:
Rear wheel is Centerline Hellcat 8,5*15" w/5" backspacing. Donuts are MT Sportman pros 28*12.50"... and yes, they fill nicely the fender. Car still runs pretty much horizontal so it's not those ass-up rides  :grinno:
Leaf clearance is pretty much 1/2-3/4" and fender is well... tight
I'm looking to change the wheels into Rallye's by Vintigues like their 10*15 with either 5 or 5,5" backspacing. if 5,5" i propably need to use a thin shim plate not to scratch the leafs with those donuts

Have a good one

.... First snow on ground bubbas'...first snow  :gripe:

Plum.. oh y mean your momma spanks your rear times to times  :grinno: :grinno: :grinno:

this morning... -10 Celsius.. :ack:  you do the math

If you're going to buys MP kit, you need to rework the front hanger to fit w/original leafs!! A good thing with MP kit is that front hanger has Two height alternatives which you can easily tune the pinion angle... well I don't know about your mild engine if it needs special care with the angles

Hello "bud",
yes you can use them as well. i didn't want to use them at this point of time because i dodn't want go into welding path. Mine is almost "hammer-in" style, with those parts you showed you need to weld them into chassis... either or, it's a matter of selection. With parts in the link you can use all the space in the wheel-base i.e. you'd get app. 14-15" in challenger body, cuda I believe a bit less.. MP kit which I'm using eats really easy like BFG 295's.. MT 12,5" will be quite maximum with correct backspacing.

So how much backspace you think is possible with a larger diameter wheel (17"/18")?  You think 6" is possible?

G'morning Lime,

let me do so that I'll jumpd under the car and measure the absolute max backspacing. Currently I'm having 5" and there's still plenty of space considering the rim itself. however it's a matter of which kinda donut you're going to use.

Here again,

Lime/Plum.. here's exac measures from the rear with above setup
Tire-leaf clearance 0.7"
Rim-leaf clearance 2,5" w/ 5" backspacing centerline's
Front hanger inboard nut (that ties the leaf into hanger)- frame rail clearance 1/2"

so 6 incher back-spacing is "throw-in"... depending on how's the donut fitting.... best is to try it on, that's what I did

Thanks for the trouble H, any of this information will help before going out and paying big bucks for rims and tires.
Cheers!

Thx

I figure with a lower profile tire there wont be near the sidewall bulge.

So do you think a stock rear could hold a combo like this:

15x8.5, 5"BS + 295/50/R15?  I'm guessing that on a rim that size, section width would be 12" or less.

I'm running a 305 45/R17 on the back of mine, with the MP offset hangers. the backspace is 6.9 inches with 3/4" of spacers and 3" studs. The wheel lip is modified, and I had to file one part of the leaf spring so it had a little more clearance.
70 Cuda, 7.0L Gen-III Hemi, Viper T56 w/9310 gearset, 3.91's, Megasquirt MS3x v3.57, Innovate wideband, Firm Feel upper arms, torsion bars, springs and strut rods, QA1 DA shocks. I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....
