5.7L engines smoke out the tailpipe?

I was at the International Auto Show a couple weeks ago and while sitting in a new Challenger, a guy gets in and starts talking about how a lot of the new Challeger R/T cars have issues with smoke out the tailpipe due to oil burning?

He said it was only the 5.7L engine.  I thought this was weird since that engine has been around for a while and I've not heard any issues like this. 

Anyone hear of this?

My old truck was a 5.7 Hemi as well as my current truck with 40,000+ miles. Neither of them ever smoked. Doesn't sound right to me....

My magnum has a 5.7L and almost 100k miles on it, it doesn't smoke at all. My guess is the guy is full of crap. Probably confusing some info he heard about on the old hemis with loose rockers or something.

That's what I figured.  Maybe he was from the Ford or Chevy display making trouble...

I have read that oil vapour can acumulate in the intake and then ocasionaly get sucked in and burned. I saw a little burn on my 5.7 this summer as my wife drove away, thats when I did some searcing.
It was gone in a few seconds.

Mine will occasionally (maybe once so far) one puff smoke on first start, and yes, these motors (5.7 and 6.1) do draw some oil through the PCV system but I don't know if that is specific to the passenger car intake manifold or not. There are aftermarket catch cans made especially address this. My car will have about 3 teaspoons of oil in the catch can every 1000 miles or so. It's nothing to really worry about. LX forums has info about the catch cans. Mine is from billet specialties and was on the car when I bought it.

I have one on mine also. I have never seen it smoke though. Like you said there is a little oil in the can so I guess it must be doing it's thing.

My 1990 Pontiac GTA does this. This is a common problem with these engines. The valve seals are junk and let oil in after you turn the engine off. On startup you get a lot of smoke burning through the cats. The motor has 79K on it and is spotless. The oil stays very clean and never fouls up.

I'd be bummed if a modern engine was doing this.

i would think a 350 and 305 sbc is alot differnt then a hemi motor and i had 3 gtas back in the day nice looking but junk cars tpi sucked
