I find that the rear glass is much harder to break than the windshields, which can crack if you breathe on it wrong.  I've removed several of rear windows from ebodies with a windshield knife, none broke.  I usually try to scrape off any hard stuff that might be on top of the gap, just to make it easier to move the knife.  Lots of times the old seal is deteriorated in several spots, so the knive may pass easily.  If either the top or bottom is particularly well stuck, I usually cut allong the sides, and the bottom or top, whichever is easier to cut, then gently and slowly push the glass out, tilting it on the stuck edge.

I used a utility knife like quapman suggested. It took about 30 munites. 800 seems high for a rear glass. I just got one  including delivery, 389.95.

Huh? The discussion is on how to remove the glass correct? Why not post it? Some used the wire/guitar string some did not. The_engineer posted about the 800.00 price for the glass I thought that was kinda high since I got one for half that.

Huh, Hey...I did not bring up the price of a rear window. When I saw someone paid 800 for one, then I chimed in.  :banghead:

I never said you brought up anything. I did not bring it up either. I never replied to anything you wrote. I did the same thing you did when I seen the price of 800.00 for the glass I chimed in and I replied to the original poster. Why you seem to have taken issue with that I have no idea. ???

Dutch is right. There is a textured wire that comes with a double set of screw together handles and use a pair of needle nose pliers to insert it in and under the butyl tape. When you get it in, said the nun to the vicar, go EASY and saw it back and forth with your mate inside while SLOWLY pulling it along the circumference of the w/s. Use your mind with your hands and if it sticks or you hear it grinding on the glass, stop, back up and go around the hard spot. Watch for the mldg rivets and there are small metal pillow blocks near the outer bottom corners to also avoid. As well mentioned, go SLOWLY and don't try to push at all until you've made a complete circuit of the w/s. It may take a couple of circuits, but I cut out both my w/s and rear glass with no breakage doing it so. The rear glass is a lot tougher as it's not laminated like the w/s and is tempered like a door glass. Just don't nick the edges and you'll be fine. Good luck!
