is this seller ripping me off ?
« on: December 18, 2010 - 06:46:37 AM »
Hi, I bought a pair od door panels on ebay and sellers wants to charge mi $210.00 for shipping from WA to IL. UPS ground. Over 2 hundredbucks is IMO way too much - I guess it should be no more than $50. Can anyone check this price? Seller says box is 54x30x14".
thanks!

Moreover, other sellers quote $30-45 price for shipping a pair in CONUS and thsi one had approx $30 as listed shipping cost but stated that it has to be adjusted due to oversize, but hey, not 180 bucks...

fed ex is cheaper than ups when over sized.  I just sent a box close to that size with insurance to ca for 35 bucks. But it had a business address.  a fender isnt that much.  Maybe Dave at roseville will chime in, he ships large items all the time and has more expertise in this

Just go to UPS site and type in the dimensions and weight, it will give you the cost.

ea, ups site doesnt show ups ground option and the lowest is UPS over 150 bucks (calculated on dimensional weight basis) and fedex 138 bucks. Maybe the dimesions he quoted me are way off ? I dont have my care here but maybe someone has a door panel laying around to check the dimensions? He says its 54x30x14".

My address is a commercial address (shipping company).

The price is high.  It sounds like the seller is going to a UPS store and having them box it for him.  He is then passing the cost on to you.  The question is did you, even by mistake, agree to it.  If not you should be able to get out of the transaction.  If you agreed to the shipping, even by mistake, you can ack the seller to do a mutual withdrawl or termination of the transaction.  I forget Ebays name for the proceedure.  Post a link to the auction.

Is this the auction?

If so I don't like what the seller did.  On this auction, even if it is not yours, the seller was not upfront about the shipping.  You can enter the oversize shipping cost on the Ebay listing.  This seller put in a small shipping amount and then put in the listing body that oversize shipping costs will be charged.  I list things on Ebay myself and never try to pull these stunts.  I hate it when people try to take advantage of others.

I don't know on this particular case but I know in the past the Ebay shipping calculator was incorrect and the seller readjusted it for me manually.

Is $210 stated personally by the seller for your zip code or was it posted on the auction?

Reminds me when I shipped your luggage rack to you Al. I still feel horrible about that? UPS really suck it to me? First time I had ever shipped anything that size? Lesson learned though! :sadwavey:

Another factor is from where to where... east nowhereville to to west bumf*ck is different  than milwaukee to dallas... (just an example)  But its all done in shipping zones. The higher the zone number the more $$$ This applies to FEDEX or UPS and can be differfent rates due to where the closest terminal is (also).

that is expensive, all carriers now go by DIM's and then actual weight.  I can ship a pair of the new cuda door panels wrapped in extra 1/2 foam board from mich to cali for about 42. it will depend also on residential vs business, you will get whacked 12-20% more for residential deliveried vs a business, this will also depend on if he has a ups account or taking it to the depo or having it picked up at his house. all this will add up quickly and is a calculating factor especially if the addresses are in the boonies and they have to sub out pick up or deliveries. Fedex blows we dont use them at all. usps or ups.  :2cents:

I sent a full set of door panels, front and rears from Ca to Florida vie UPS for $105.  So, yes his charge is high.
