Convertible A-Pillar Interior Molding Question
« on: December 20, 2010 - 01:57:52 PM »
Hello,

Can someone confirm for me if the interior A-pillar part for a '71 E-body convertible is the same as the hardtop part?  I can't seem to find anyone who makes a convertible only A-pillar trim part, so I am wondering if the hardtop part will work, or if it is a completely different part (like chrome vs. plastic).

Your help is much appreciated!

Hi,

As an update, a Challenger convertible owner confirmed for me that his interior windshield pillar post molding is the same plastic part used in the hardtop, but is slightly cut to fit the convertible.

Is anyone aware of a chrome interior piece or all they all plastic?

I believe they are all plastic do you have the other 3 peaces that go with the a pillars?
A unique corner(may be stamped metal if I remember I'll stick a magnet to mine) and overhead section, you may want to make a custom cover if you don't have them. :2cents:

They are all plastic.  The factory just used a hardtop piece and cut it off to fit.  There are two patterns for the screw attachments.  It may be 70-71 then 72- up.  I am unsure of the years right now. I have it written down somewhere.  Someone here will know.

Thanks for confirming.  I do have all of the outer chrome pillar and header pieces, but unfortunately, I don't have the interior end pieces you are referring to.

You can search Ebay for originals of the parts you need.  Reproductions are available also.  Here is one place.

Google 1971 challenger convertible top latch and you will find a few vendors.
