Pics of Classic Air Sanden AC brackets on a SB?
« on: December 21, 2010 - 07:06:38 PM »
Anyone have some pics of the Sanden compressor conversion on a SB?

I can see a little bit of the Bouchillon set-up on their website, don't really like the way the brackets look.
The Classic Air website doesn't show anything close up, which scares me.

This is on my short list of projects to start before summer rolls around.

This is the best I can find.

Thx

I can shoot a few pics of mine and post them. The ac does work, it is a sanden unit, 340 73 challenger with a 6 pack. If you have a 6 pak be prepared to work a little with the bottom front of the air cleaner housing to get it to fit. I had to cut mine just a little. I also have just developed a fan belt squeal that goes away when the engine begins to warm up.

I know the belts are not aligned perfectly, so I watch them closely. Let me know if you want the pics.

Couple pics would be great!  I'm curious about the compressor mounts and pulley/belt configuration.

That pic above is my engine, but it's a single-4 with the Ram Air cleaner.

Mine fits over the stock compressor, with the use of a spacer under the air cleaner base, so I hope it won't be a problem with the Sanden.

Thx

If your concern is aesthetics, you're barking up the wrong tree with the Classic Air or Bouchillon brackets.  Neither of these is exceptionally good looking.  Functional, but not eye candy by any means.

If you want a really nice looking setup you need to check out the serpentine pulley/belt systems from March Performance:

or Billet Specialties ($$$$$$$$$$):

Those are out of my budget, found another option that looks pretty good.
The Vintage Air set-up is the only 1 I've seen that actually uses both of the grooves on the compressor pulley.

The thing I don't like about the Vintage Air setup is their controls look out of place.  The Classic Air setup uses the stock controls.  That's why I have their AC system in my car.

I'm planning on mixing and matching the various components.  I figured once I got the compressor mount figured out, the other stuff will fall into place.

I have a stock AC car, so the plan is to use all the factory parts inside the car.

I will be getting rid of the power steering and hope to be able to adapt a Sanden in the pumps place, there is no compressor on my car at the moment.

My challenger is 440 and I just modified an oroginal bracket to get the Sanden compressor as low as possible. It will fit the sixpack setup when it goes on with some minor trimming of the aircleaner base.

Doing a 72Dart Swinger atm and the AC brackets are like nothing I've seen on Aussie smallblock cars so I ditched it and made my own.Started wth a chunk of 6x4 box steel.

NQ,

Looks like a nice set-up.  Got any close up pics of the install?  What did you have to do to the stock bracket (drill some more holes or major welding/rework)?

Just went out and took some pics for you.
It's a bit crammed in the challenger engine by but hopefully you can get the idea.
It involved cutting, grinding and welding.Whether it's major or not depends on your abilities I guess.

And here's the smallblock one I made.sorry it's not on an engine but shows what can be done.

And since it's just gone past midnight here it's now Xmas day so Merry Christmas!!!

Thx, awesome work!  :2thumbs:

The SB part looks very similiar to the Vintage Air piece.  Merry Xmas and get some sleep.

Hey GJ,

What compressor did you use?  I'm wondering if I can just get 1 at local parts store?
