Road Lamps - Mustang?

I wonder if anyone has tried using the 1967 or so Mustang fog lamps on the cuda.  The housings look identical from what I can tell.  The Mustang parts are far less expensive than the "Let's gouge the Mopar people" ones.  If only the Mustang light's trim ring didn't have that bar across it...

I've thought about this before and studied them very closely at car shows. From what I can tell, the bulbs are identical to the Mopar ones. They say Ford and GE on each mfg. versions.

I have the Mustang fog lamps on one of my cars.  The bar can be cut out and you file down the "cut points" on each side.  Once they are installed, you really do not see the difference between the mopar ones.

I want the Road Lamps, but the cost has placed them pretty fair down the list of upgrades.  This thread perked my interest, though.  Doing a little research in comparing prices, came up with the following.

I went the Mustang route and cut the bars off. Thought you would be able to see where the bars were but you have to REALLY
get close to see where the bars were. Here are a couple of pics of them on my '71 Cuda

On the top picture of the lights about half way down on the right hand side if you look close you can see a little red dot and just below that you can see were the bar was cut off. Like I said, you really have to look close to see were the bar was

Awesome.  Thanks for posting guys.  That looks like the ticket.  As for wiring, I can make it work.  Don't need concours stuff for this application.  Also, the 71 models use a relay in the curcuit (sellers want $175+ for the stupid thing), and I'll just find something at Radio Shack, or adapt some other relay to do the job.  Geez.  It's just a freaking relay!

I converted to higher-intensity headlights, so I'm running a relay for the highs, one for the lows, one for the fogs and a switching relay to flip-flop the highs and fogs so that they don't turn on at the same time.

I think I've got less than 0.5 amps going through the firewall for the headlight/fog circuit...your bulkhead connector will thank you.

What kind of relays are you using?  Where did you get them?

Just the standard Bosch-style ice-cube relays.  Radio Shack, Walmart, Autozone, Advance, NAPA, etc.

I bought my last pair used from a swap meet ford vendor for 75.00 , I also buy my 70 style wings from ford . ford and mopar shared many parts vendors .

I used Mustang lamps and the Mustang parts company I orderded them from, New england Mustang even had replacement bezels without the crossbars.  Total price a few years ago was like 150.  They look Great

Has anyone found a bulb conversion for these housings to use a h3 bulb similar to H4 7" upgrades?

I recently re-installed my road lamps back onto my car, but before I did I went over to a friend's house to use his sandblaster setup to clean and restore my lights.  This friend is a Mustang Guru that buys and sells Mustang parts...a rather large parts house up here in the PNW for Mustang stuff, so he's very knowledgeable about Mustangs.  Anyway, the first thing out of his mouth when I showed him my road lamps was "Those are Mustang lights."  He swore they looked the same and were probably identical...until I showed him the Pentastar on the back.

So, unless you are going concourse and expecting judges to look your car over for stampings, yeah, you can probably save some money by using Mustang road lamps.
