wow, those federally mandated bumpers sure helped! Cant say anything would have helped with a semi though.
Glad youre okay. The damage can be fixed, and if his papers are ok, the insurance should easily cover it.

Hummm hard to say? How is it insured? Replacement value or "blue book" value?
To write it off I'd say somewhere between 15 and 20 K if it's as rust free as you say?
Hopefully you had it insured for the value?
I'd go for as much as you can get and the car and fix it yourself, new quarters trunk rear panel, trunk floor, etc..... It will require some time on a frame machine too.

If the other guy is at fault, it doesn't matter what you have it insured for. Just tell the other guys insurance company to locate you a similar vehicle as a comparable. You should start gathering info of recent sales of similar cars. You should only have to settle using your own insurance company if the other guys company refuses to pay you what you think the car is truly worth.
Be prepared...they don't give a hoot about sentimental value.

Andrew, So sorry to see this happen to your ride...BUT! I guess this is why I don't put mine in the road as much as some do...

If you plan to repair it, I have a good Original rear Tail panel with tail lights, if you need it...Cheap...Might even be able to scrounge up a rear NON dual cut out valance and rear bumper in core driver condition as well...Can't help you on the trunk lid or quarters, but....

even if they go blue book it should cover $7,000 to $9,000,,when i licensed mine and had to pay back taxes it was over $8,000 in value in the year 2007 in the state of kentucky of course

so if they say total you should get close to that unless you have it insured better and that can raise the value

quarter panels about $1200 for both
TRUNK LOCK SUPPORT CHALLENGER 70 71 72 73 74 about $100
70 71 72 73 74 Challenger Trunk Gutter Pair AMD LH RH about  $150
1970 1971 1972 1973 1974 Challenger Trunk Lid about $300
TRUNK FLOOR & EXT KIT CHALLENGER 70-74 E BODY about $450

rear tail panel and lights ? have to find used but there out there ,,quote for insurance around $300 to $400
1971 72 73 74 Dodge Challenger Deck Lid Trunk Trim NEW about $200
thats a ruff guess without seeing it and the frame rails of course, and all the underneath,,,why it wanders to the right has to be checked out and i am sure there are some small things you will come across,,check it yourself underneath and get good quotes from body shops and give your input if they miss something,,check your rear springs and mounting areas,,thats why u need to go thru it yourself and if you dont think you can see it all ,,hope you have friends that can,,trust no one but yourself when it comes to the damage,,if you can do the work you should be good,,if you have to pay someone its going to be ruff unless you have had it appraised and valued that way thru insurance,,if not i hope it works out for you,,the prices i showed you are by no means perfect,,just what i saw on ebay..maybe you can get his company to settle without insurance being involved,,dont know,,hope you get it fixed  :villagers:
