    Actually just the oppostie 4C!! Their labor rate was $65/hour while ANY shop in my area will range from $85/hour (GM, Ford) up to $125/hour (BMW, Jaguar)... the average rate for a body shop doing that kind of work around here is $75-85/hour... had I taken it to one other shop... it would have run me over $35K!!! :banghead: :banghead: :eekbig: :eeksmall:

    Maaco is a franchise. Have you thought about reporting him to the head office? Do you have a consumer protection agency in your state?
    I don't know if you remember but my chally was rolled last year. We had to replace the roof one 1/4 both doors and fenders. They also fixed some rust areas that were hidden until we ripped it apart and straightened out the other 1/4. In addition they had to remove the 1/4 and roof from another doner car. They then primed and did all the paint and block sanding. The price also included all materials ie paint. The cost was just under $20,000 that would have been about $15,000 US. This guy is so far out there it is inconceivable.

    I won't tell you what it has cost me to have both the Charger and Challenger done, both were taken down to bare metal, sheet metal either replaced (rear quarter on Chally only) or repaired, all the block sanding and the paint, ..........the whole shcbang for both cost less than LB's resto. But the guy stuck to his original estimates, hell he even pulled both engines, trannys and then replaced them! This guy 71 Fish is talking about I think just went out of business for good once this goes to court. :stomp: :mad: :fire: :burn: :banghead:

    If you are still looking, there is a restoration shop call Rod-1 Shop located in Pitman NJ. 856-228-7631.  They specialize in hotrods and restorations.  Excellent quality work.  If you are looking for strictly a body shop, the best quality I've found comes from Monroe Auto Body in Glassboro.  856-881-8210.  I took my Barracuda there for an estimate, and they told me $24,000 to do the entire body inside and out.  The car needed new quarters, fender repairs, door skins, upper and lower front valances, rear valance, trunk floors and extensions, and a driver side floor pan.  When he told me that price I choked, but looking back I guess it wasn't that bad of a price.

    Thanks guys.. some good comments, ideas and support here.

    Here's the latest.. lawyer is writing up a letter 2day requesting that he gives the car back in possesion of the owner. If he doesn't which one would expect, the only recourse is to go to the local judge requesting permission to take the car back until all is settled in court. Show the judge the "only" quote and then the 75k invoice and see what he/she says.

    The owner will be told by the attorney in writing that, and I quote..  "charges of CONSUMER FRAUD are being brought against you and we'll pursue this case to the fullest extent of NJ statutes"

    What sucs for my brother is that worse case scenario.. he may not get the car back until the case is heard & tried.. which could be 1-1.5 years.

    Just read the story about the stand-up General Lee in MCG. In the story, the car was sold by the person with custody of it while the real owner had the title. The real owner had to track it down, and confiscated it, only to have it taken away from him under court order, after he put $30,000 in resto work into it.

    It might be a good idea to have the car impounded at a local dealership or some other place, put into third party hands until this situation is resolved: that way this body shop guy doesn't try to pull some funny business and sell the car.

    lATEST UPDATE.. NEW LAWER.. He focuses on consumer fraud.. said this case is all but a slam dunk. On top of everything.. he will also be suing Maaco franchise for damages.. may make the NJ papers.. should be interesting.

    I think this guy had in mind that if he charged an outrageous price, and the owner could not pay, then he would be able to keep the car for himself.  I hope this guy burns!  :mad:

    That kind of guys would have been crabbed with "shoulder-arse" hug behind the Finnish Sauna and pieced with Logger's Axe... to 2 lbs pieces!!!! In this country, while being very small compared to US, this guy really would be out of bizz for good!!!

    Outrageous numbers... 60hrs for replacing the tank.. geeeeze, I've done everything by myself and surely did something else as well within 60hrs than only tank!! And yeah, mine was torn down to parts and redone everything. Only thing which I didn't do by myself was engine boring and line honing.

    give a well oriented Kick-ass to this "Individual" from my part as well!!!  :boxer: :boxer: :boxer:

    71Fish, if this story wasn't coming from one of the solid members here, I seriously couldn't believe what I read.  That's unreal what that knob is trying to pull on your brother! :mad: :stomp:  If you guys don't have enough material about what the going rate for those repairs are, I'd be glad to scan you a picture of just how long each of the steps took on my Challenger.  I can tell you right now, expect about $1,000 for a quarter panel repair (cutting out the old one and welding and smoothing in the new one).  I had $2,500.00 put into my car, including a complete underbody paint job as well as in the engine compartment at a shop rate of $25.00 per hour.  (Yeah, it was a nice deal working with my friend's father.)  Let us know how this turns out, as I'm sure most of us are now into this as much as you are. :thumbs:  We'll take this guy out!!!! :boxer:
