4 Links?

How many use a 4 link setup? And did you install them yourself? Pros and cons of a 4 link verses a ladder bar setup. My Cuda may need a upgrade. :burnout:

I installed an RMS street lynx four link in my car.It also has the front unit.So coils all around. Not sure on the difference between the 4 link and ladder.

I have read that the 3 link is the way to go.

It's my understanding that ladder bars are more of a drag racing/ straight line sort of thing. 4 or 3 link are  more designed for handling.

I was told that the ladder bars ride rough. And 4 links ride smoother when set and hook up better than ladder bars. I know there are more than 4 people have them in their cars.

I would agree ladder bars are more of a drag racing peace, are you going drag racing?

A 3 or 4 link is more street friendly once adjusted correctly will launch just as hard on the track, I have heard that a 3 link won't bind as fast as a 4 link is your intentions are for that style of driving. Road racing or autocross

It is important to not get confused about which kind of 4 Link you are talking about. The 4 link that I have and RMS sells is a triangulated 4 link that has a set of diagonal bars, usually on top of the rearend, and two lower straight bars. The top bars that angle in toward the centerline of the car help in the lateral movement of the reareand. The two lower bars that go straight help the rear maintain a true up and down motion.
The four link that you will hear about when talking about a drag racing application has all four bars going straight and may employ a panhard bar which is a lighter rod that keeps the rear from swaying.
In a drag racing, a triangulated four link would be less optimal than Cal tracs. I don't know about the ladder bar and "traditional" 4 link debate but I have seen leaf spring cars beat both. It really is all in the way it is set up. Set up correctly, ladder bar and "traditional" 4 link cars will beat a leaf car if everything else equal, but it is proven that just because you have some "other" suspension doesn't mean you'll be faster than this or that. You have to tune it.

So, it's important to know which 4 link you are talking about and it's important to have a tuned suspension (not just "parts" under the car).

If I were going drag racing, I would opt for a ladder bar suspension. It's easier to tune and more robust.

Assuming we are talking a traditional 4 link to comapre to a ladder bar...

Four link has more adjustment which will allow more detailed tuning to match engein, chassis and track conditions. A great benefit if you race on multiple surfaces on multiple dates wth a great amount of inconsistenacy of surfaces with very high power. However, this same range of adjustments also means there are that many more opportunitites to adjust thing incorrectly and end up with a chassis that won't hook at all.

Ladder bars are a simplier arrangement with fewer adjustments that still maintain a greater range of adjustment than a leaf sprign set up so it can adapt to a braoder range of conditions. Less cahnce of bad adjustments are possible with this set up, and with floaters, won't ride any rougher than an SS equiped car.

I have a 2800 stall converter with a beefed up 727 with 3.23 gears and SS springs with traction bars. I thought that with the 3.23 gears that it would bite more but it still lights them up. The engine is a 440 with Edelbrock performer head and custom ground roller cam and lifters and a MSD ignition and distributor to light it off. It was dynoed at 525HP but i think it was a engine dyno not a chassis dyno. I have no idea of how much torque it has but it seems to have a lot. I have a set of ET street tires but I want to save them for the strip. But I need to get more tire bite that is why I was thinking off a 4 link. I have a stock looking 1972 Cuda and I realy do not want to cut up if I do not have to.

I thought that running traction bars with SS springs was a no no. Have you run it without the traction bars, but with the snubber adjusted correctly and the front half of the springs clamped??
70 Cuda, 7.0L Gen-III Hemi, Viper T56 w/9310 gearset, 3.91's, Megasquirt MS3x v3.57, Innovate wideband, Firm Feel upper arms, torsion bars, springs and strut rods, QA1 DA shocks. I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....
