Custom Subframe connectors (Finished!) **pics**
« on: December 25, 2010 - 07:20:59 PM »
They came out really nice, but there are a few things I would do different next time.

1. My next set will be the same width in the front (same size as the front frame rails), but narrow to the back to the same width as the rear frame rails.

2. Blend them in to the rear frame rails so they look like one continuous rail.

3. (not the subframe) but I would stitch weld the cross member that the torsion bars mounts to.

Overall I'm very happy with them and look forward to seeing how they change the cars feel.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

nice work there. I can`t wait to see the entire car in paint.  Ofcourse it`s just pictures to look at , but your work looks second to none from this side of the globe  :worshippy  I hope I`ll be able to see the car in real life one day.

Very nice.  You say custom so I assume you made them.  What steel product form and thickness did you start width?  How did you cut the contours (assuming not thru the pan)?  I like the holes you added - looks very convincing and matches the other frames.

Thank you for the comments.  I would really encourage anyone that is thinking about adding them.... to do it.  They we're any harder than hanging quarters and I think they will add to the handling more than torque boxes.

Here's the process....

Honestly I don't remember, but I do know it was a little thicker than the factory rails.  Probably around .120.
