Is 2.76 gears with 440/727 going to be slugish?

I have a chance to buy a 3.55 suregrip, car now has a 2.76 open.  Was going to buy the 3.55 then met a Challenger owner that has 2.76 suregrip in his car. He has 440/727 with 6 pack and Edelbrock RPM heads.  He said car is still very fast with this combo. I won,t be  drag racing my car but don't want to be slow ether.  My wife has a 2005 vette with a procharger on it.  I don't need to be faster than her, but I want the Barracuda to put up a decent fight. 
I'm still far away from finishing, just collecting parts I will need.
So the question is, will a 440 with 2.76 accelerate at a decent pace?
If no, then I will probally buy the 3.55.
If yes, then I will look for a 2.76 suregrip.
Also the guy with the Chally has the 2.76 with a Gear Vendors overdrive, so he really believes in the high gearing.

The 2.76's will definitely take more work to get going, but depending on your build (hp focus vs. torque focus) may shed enough low end power to keep you from easily spinning.

2.76's with OD? Is he idling at 60?

You probably won't be beating anybody off the line with those gears but from about 35mph on it'll be all kinds of fun. Should allow for nice cruising mpgs and crazy top end.

Didn't even know you could get a 2.76 Suregrip.  3.23 would be about the lowest I would think you should go.  3.55's would be about perfect.

Unless you plan on LOTS of hwy miles, stay away from the 2.76.

I thought is was geared to high also, but I'm new to this, and I don't know.  He has built a few cars and does this for a living.  He said his engine was built for torque, but said it had the Edelbrok RPM heads and intake.  Maybe the cam makes it a torque motor?  He said the car can just spin the tires easily with the 2.76 , so if your not racing then the 2.76 is fine using a big block.  He has 275x15x60 tires.  I'm leaning toward the 3.55 and then if I don't spend too much on this project I'll add the Gear Vendors.   This is so confusing.  Thanks for all your advice.

This is a trick question right? Your kidding right? Fast means "top end" to most...Quick means "1/4 mile" to most...I assume you are talking road racing with this Vette?  Good luck with that one...Lemme see, 40 plus Y/O tech. against a Vette with a blower....Yeah, right....You need to be content with the fact your car is COOLER than any Vette.....This reminds me of a kid down here I built a 440 and 4-speed Roadrunner for, and the only thing he wanted to know was how much HP it was making. I told him it should be good for an honest 475-500 HP...The first thing comes out of  his mouth was "So, you think I can keep up with a Z06 Vette? it has 500 HP too"...

No, I don't want to race her to top end or expect to handle like a vette.
Just want to keep up on something like a roll on from 30 to 75 MPH.
Sorry for not stating the differece between quick and fast.
My other hobby is Aerobatics, sorta a expert there, but just a newbie with the old Mopars.

Go for the 3.55

Even with the lower gearing it will be all but impossible to keep up with a supercharged LS engine....

The stick is obvious, but even automatic Vette trans' use super low gearing compared to the old 727's and about a 600 HP Vette against a (I'm assuming again here, 375-450 HP 440) Cuda, will be a no brainer...

You will need to add a Supercharger to the 440 as well, then maybe the odds are at least even...Those LS motors are no joke...Ask me how I know.........[Hint: Been there, done that and the Mopar wasn't on top]...

I think Chryco has 276 gears in his charger with an od 4 speed. It did really good in all areas of excelleration. Plus his fuel consumption was really good. This is a 440 with easy mods done to it. He will chime in soon on his street build.  He has achieved some unreal top end mph numbers with the car

I committed, Bought the 3.55, 489 case, sure grip.   I think I got a fair deal.  Supposed to have new gears, only 10 miles on them.  $450.  I guess it will over a year from now that I will Know.

That's the nice thing about the 8.75, you can pick up several sets, and swap them out when needed.

Setting up a Dana is a pain that you don't want to do very often.

Where'd you pick up the gear set?
