Ive use the POR rust preventative

I have a iron decorative grill that hangs outside in the sun, rain, snow, wind, etc in the South east.  A couple of thin sprzyed coats, and it hasnt a bit of rust in THREE years since I painted it

It smells awful when fresh (before it dries), and will make a hell of a mess if you spill it........

I recoomend it

As said above , POR 15 works great! just dont get it where you dont want it,

IT WILL stick to everything,INCLUDING YOUR SKIN! it took weeks for it wear off my hands,

I have used it a lot. You really need to use the etching prep spray they send you to get it to stick to anything. Even then, you do have to handle painted parts somewhat carefully. Not with kid gloves, but don't let something painted slide against a metal part. Do those two things and it will stick pretty well.

Works great! Make sure you etch any bare metal first.

POR is not really a 'rust-preventative' paint.  It is used to Paint Over Rust (POR).  I have used it myself as a basecoat on parts that are susceptible to rust (control arms, K-frame, strut rods...).  And I blasted those parts clean before using it, and then used a topcoat of regular paint, over the POR  (POR-->light prime coat-->paint).  My car is not yet on the road, so I can't speak to the durability.

However...Since I painted my stuff, I have known several people who used the same technique as me, with horrible results.  POR will sometimes peel from smooth surfaces.  (I have seen it peel completely off, leaving no paint at all).  Apparently, a rusty surface gives it something to 'bite' into, and makes it stick better.  (Now, how many of us leave stuff rusty, and then paint over it?)  The manufacturer even recommends to paint it right over the rust.  As others have said, their 'Metal Prep' etching solution is good stuff, and you should use it first.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend POR-15, but just be aware that it is not always best for perfectly clean, smooth surfaces.  Sorry - I've not used the other products you mentioned.

Get the Rust Bullet. Trust me on this!
And don't get crazy with it. By that I mean use it sparingly (2 coats) and only where its absolutely must be used.

I reduced it with Acetone and sprayed it. Came out way better than trying to brush it on. After that, a sanding and then epoxy primer. Its UV sensitive so primer it after not waiting too long.

Great stuff when it works, had a couple a places where it didn't , trunk lid peeled off in one sheet, primer stuck to por , por did not stick to the metal, I would swear I followed all instructions.
other parts it's like it's part of the metal, my sandblaster guy moaned when I brough him my inner hood frame with some on it, he had delt with it before, a biotch to get off.
I will only use it under & inside the car,not on the skin anymore, too hard to make sure your paint will stick, everything has to be absolutly perfect of you will have problems, my inner wheel wells the paint & prime(their tie coat)came off the curved parts. Rich.
