Calendar Question(s)
« on: January 01, 2011 - 07:29:51 PM »
Now that the 2011 calendar had been put to bed, I'm working on getting things updated for the 2012. I had a bunch of questions, and I may put them all here or put each in a different thread. I don't want to clutter things up too much, but I do want to get feedback from a lot of people.

First question: I could swear that at some point we had a rule that pictures submitted for the calendar had to be taken by the person submitting them. I can't find any sign of this, though. Is my mind making this up?

More info may follow if either that was a rule that I missed this year, or people think it should be a rule.

But did we say that the person submitting the picture has to have taken the picture?

From memory from the first year it was done.......

Owner's photo of his / her car only.

No photoshop / edits.

Must be taken during the prior year.

One submission per person only.

No watermarks or text added.

That is the best I can recall.  :dunno:

Don't remember anything about members shooting their own cars...pretty hard for any of the action shots that way.

Ron, I would've let you behind the seat for this year's shot.  :2thumbs:

That's exactly what I was thinking about, which is why, if there was such a rule in the past, I was going to argue against it. I personally would not let other people get frisky with my car while I took the pics  :grinno:

Well, It looks like I broke  these rules in the name of artistic merit.
Owner's photo of his / her car only.
No photoshop / edits. (filler images modified, filters added and creative cropping)
One submission per person only. several members submitted awesome filler images
Hope you still like the results.

My thought is this:

1) It has to be the owner's car, but not the owner's pic. In other words, the owner can have someone else do the shooting.

2) The photoshop thing is always going to be a bugaboo. Almost any shot need sto be adjusted. What constitutes too much adjustment? My best suggestion is to say people can adjust brightness, contrast and saturation. That should eliminate what I think is the purpose of a rule like this, things like photoshopping one's car onto an aircraft carrier deck or something like that. (BTW, I don't see any problem with photoshopping the filler shots.)

3) One shot per person: was this meant to be one shot per car? A few people submitted multiple shots, but not more than one of each car. Do we want to limit owners to submitting shots of several cars? (For that matter, what if someone submitted a shot with several cars in it?)

I don't have a problem with a little Photoshop and croping, my car would have looked better cropped a little tighter I shot it loos so I could play with it.

I guess  the question may be is it about a nice car in a cool setting or ones photo skills?

However complete background swaps may be a bit much.

I for one have a suggestion on the calender. I feel there should be no repeats each year of the same car. In other words if your car made it in the calender this year you aren't eligible for the next calender year. Don't get me wrong i'm not knocking anybodys ride but i don't want to see the same car every year in a different pose and it makes it more fair for other members to have a chance to have thier car make it in the calender just my  :2cents:

You're not the only one to suggest that. I think I'll post a poll on that question and get people's feedback.

no problem with sending in multiple pictures of the same car, as long as there`s someone skilled to select the best pose ,before voting. I think it would help give those who don`t shoot world press photo quality, a fair chance.
