Could this be a scam?
« on: January 05, 2011 - 08:12:08 PM »
I advertised on this web site for a radiator for my 70 Challenger.  A person from the UK sent me an e-mail offering one at a very good price.  The name used is Graham Grant of Guildhall London, UK.  Anyone ever heard of this guy.  He claims to have been in the parts business for a long time and has a UPS account?  How could I verify if this is a legitimate offer?  Any suggestions, comments or cautions? UK scams are common on car web forums, at least one guy mentions that he has a whole wharehouse full of parts.

I just got an email from someone in UK about a wanted ad I have here, used the text of my ad as the subject of the email, and in the body of the email asked if I was still looking for the item(s) in my ad, and if so to reply with my phone number.  I figured even on the off chance the email was legit, I wasn't going to pay shipping for a spare tire from UK to the US!  I'm sure it was a scam.

Here is the guy who emailed me:
Stephan Jones
PO Box 270. Guildhall London EC2P 2EJ UK.
Must be a lot of Mopar parts hoarders there in Guildhall London? :naughty:
I wonder why he wanted my phone number, I should email him back and give him the number of a local strip club or something! :swaying:

Hi, That's great.  The guy that e-mailed me used the EXACT SAME ADDRESS.  Guess that answers my question, it's got to be a SCAM!  Don't you agree?  How do we issue a scam alert for the other members?  We need to keep this going.  Paul K

He sent me this: Graham Grant, PO Box 270 Guildhall London, EC2P 2EJ, UK

Some of the members on an Australian website have been busy posting these scam guys email on porno sites and sign them up for all sorts of weird items.   :droolingbounce:   Stringing them along only goes so far.   :stirpot:

It is clear that these guys, Grant Graham and Stephan Jones, are scammers.  It is gratifying that it did not work.  It is a great reminder that; "if it's too good to be true" it probably is.  Thank to all who contributed to this post.  We were and should be protective of each other and post when we suspect a scammer.  Thanks, PK
