if there weren't people like Tom between me and the parts and services I want.
Sorry to vent, but life is too short to deal with "Toms"

Then why do people keep dealing with with him?  After 2 failed attemps I would have been pissed and found my parts somewhere else. Unless he makes these fasteners himself, he can't be the only one to get these parts from.  Eventually we'll be able to get all of the parts from a bigger company and pay 4 times as much to them for stocking it and having good customer service.

I kept trying to deal with him because people here recommended him. Again, my conclusion is "he's a hobbyist." Given that he apparently sells to some people and not others, I'm guessing that he sells to his friends, and other people when he has something going on that he needs money for. Any other time, he appears to just hit delete.

Being the capitalist I am, there's nothing wrong with that. He has the right to be a hobbyist, and the right to sell to whomever he wishes, whatever and whenever he wishes. But I certainly wouldn't recommend him with that attitude, and I'd tell people that if you want something from him, settle in for a long haul.

I had a totally different experience from what I’m hearing.  I found RT Specialists a couple weeks ago through this board when I was searching for some fasteners and I called them up last week.  My call was answered, I ordered the parts and they arrived today, no drama.  Based on my one experience I recommend them.

I'll tell you a little trick.  Order through guys like David at Roseville and it always shows up.  He's getting it from RT Specialties, but I do not have to worry and David handles it all.  So far all my orders have been the same or less what I could buy it direct from the other vendors.  Might want to shoot David an email before you place your next order with RT specialties or any other vendor.    AND guys like David and the other vendors here pay to support this site.  Win / Win!
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

I've ordered from R/T and Roseville and have had great luck with both vendors. Tom's main advantage is his knowledge and I have never had a problem reaching him on the phone but then again I have not ordered anything in the last few months.

Well .... I never figured that this thread would get this much attention since I opened it at the beginning of January.   I think that it is safe to say that Tom is more of a hobbyist at this than people expect.   He fills his orders ..... doesn't particularily like email and talking on he phone.   If you want personal service call the guys that offer this (ex.  Dave at Roseville).

I want to also add that I am happy that there are guys like Tom at RT Specialties around because he does have some items that you can't find elsewhere (easily).   My experience was much like the others that placed orders.   I ordered it, paid for it ...... received it about two weeks later (in Canada).   In summary ..... not bad.   Cheers ...... CHAPS.
