News:
Just lost power this morning at 6AM. I'm running on a generator, 2 space heaters, a fan forced wood stove. I've got my laptops, slingboxTV, DSL and routers all on the generator and battery backups. 60% of my zip code area is down and no answer as to when it will be back up? -6 degrees F right now.Good thing that I bought a generator after that time when the whole grid went down for 5 days. How the hell would you keep your pipes from freezing if you aren't prepared? Now I need to stock up with gas since all of the local stations are out of power too.
Stay safe!
Luckily, power was only off for 6 hours. It was a wake up call for me to get my extra wiring installed so I can just plug my generator into the house. Now it the snow wasn't so deep........
I wired my generator to back-feed through a panel breaker. When the power goes out I switch off the 200amp main and switch on the generator breaker.
I my old house wired the same way. I put in an outside dryer plug under the deck. After killing the mains, I would just wheel out the generator, plug in my patch cord, then fire it up. You have to make sure that the big loads are off though, like the electric furnace or A/C. My 6500 watt generator still only comes with a 30 amp socket.Probably start looking for a whole house generator this year.
Beautiful day today cruising the Cuda around! The bottom drops out around noon on Monday in Denver for a pretty sucky week....
